• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1983 500CR Race Bike Project

Yes, I know it's designed to retract when the motor starts. I was just going to add a thin spacer so the tip would be easier to grab, especially when the motor is hot.

Well, the motor is complete with a new Mikuni 38mm flat slide with the suggested jetting. Won't start. Checked timing again, get a pop but it doesn't turn over. Disconnected the kill switch and same result. I switched carbs and installed a Mikuni flat slide carb that originally came on my 94 Husky 360. The bike fired up. Going to try it again and see if it still runs. In 94, the Kehin carb and the FMF pipe was the go to answer for those machines. Mikuni didn't do to much for the early TM carb (jets and adjustment wise) and was working on the new flat side design that I have now. So, after all that, anyone have any jetting recommendations for this motor. Thanks in advance. I'll have to open up the carb and see what I have now but am looking for some answers.

I haven't ever cared much for the Mikuni flat slides, so my jetting recommendation would be to replace it with a Keihin PWK!

Yes, I think I commented on this one or someone else's thread about wanting to run an internal rotor on a 500... WOW!!

Getting the bugs out of the carb situation. Awaiting some jets to dial it in. Have the first race of the season this coming weekend so we will see how far along the bike is by then.

Well, the carb problem was not worked out in time for the first hare scramble. The parts arrived after the event and I went as a spectator and watched. The parts finally arrived and for the most part the carb is dialed in now. I installed a set of 85 triple clamps to upgrade it to solid mounted handlebars. The 1982 style front fender has some movement to it and I'm thinking about adding a front fender bracket to control it. Added green number plates and will have to take of pic of what I have done so far sometime this week.

Hey Tommyboy, was the first race in Bartow? I seen all the r.v. 's pulling in off of 17 just south of town . I figured that was the kick off...

Next weekend we have a hare scramble race in Bartow, Florida, just outside of Tampa. Saturdays course is 9 miles long per lap and Sundays course is 11 miles per lap and both include a MX section. This is part of the Florida Trail Riders series, one of the largest series in the country. My 84 is in the EVO class and will run on Saturday for 1.5 hours. On my modern bike, it's 2.0 hours on Sunday. This is one of the best tracks and put together by one of the local FTR clubs.
