• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

19-20 MAY 2012 West Chec 2 day qualifier Enduro Rnd 5

Day one went well really screamed the crap out of the machine. Blew the rear shock near the end of the first st on day 2 (FYI the reb adjuster screw o ring pushed out and all the oil leaked out).
No quitting, rode basically the entire day with no dampening (I mean zero). Just a spring out back. It was super sketch up in the pine forest trail, but i coped well as long as there was a cushionn on the trail . For single whoop i did my best bubba scrubs to keep from being ejected, for multi whoops i rode up e sides and zig zagged alot or just slowed way down and rolled em. A pro woman was heloed off the mountain , luckily i passed the secene. Before they closed the special for 2 hours, LR was caught behind that wait, as well aslots of later minutes. The highlight was the wilderness mountain trail st. It was a tip toe in some spots with sheer drops off line. Pogo husky was not the best tool for that job. I learned alot more about clutch, body,Bike control riding in that condition. I had to really choose my speed battles carefully.. The 310 is really a trail weapon, this evvent is the hardest i ridden her yet, not the hardest ride but the hardest ive ridden her in anger. Oh yea we did a transfer through a fairly long rock filled stream bed that was tough with no shock' found that with just alittle load of gas the rear would stay somewhatnsettled. Anyway thats about it . Ok more was late into route check 4 (because of my slow mountain ST time and transfers) so i blasted off to the final st which i completly fffd up on, but once out, there was a long transfer to finsh check out so, i rode like a maniac to try and make my. Check out time, i got to the line as my out time min flipped i was hammered but super happy, prolly made up 15. Maybe 20 mins. It was alot of open fields with a a. Very safe 18mph average. 6th gear was not unusual on the smooth stuff. Its break time and bike work time, clutch mod, oil change, valve check, wheel true, new rear tire, new chain," etc etc.
PS flexxbars are great and the Fasst Co owner Cole rocks, with no questions he rebuilt my bars with new, elastomers and hardware. Did i mention how good the 310 is. I gotta give it up to the rynopower program as well, that stuff is rocket fuel.

thanks SanDHusky for the props but as the results are solidified looks Like P3 in class on day one and P4 on day 2, I am really pleased with my S/T times on day 2 after the shock blowout, not too bad considering the condition of the machine, except for the final S/T which I completly FFFFd up on and lost over 10 minutes (dropped myself off the podium for sure). bike needs some real TLC and she is going to the health spa for a week or 2.
When I saw the terrain and course I knew my classmates (mostly dez racer guys) would have home ground advantage, this was not the tight single track of Anza anymore!

Nice vid - going to do a GP 2 hour race this weekend on the TXC310 - maybe not the ideal bike against 450's and I'm 59 y/o with only a day or 3 on a mx track (part of the course) - but I think we'll be ok. Put a couple more clicks of compression in the suspension and call it good.

Rob - how was gas consumption at those speeds? I think I'm real close to being able to run 2 hours (maybe 2 hr 10 min) on 1 tank.

P.S. Next time you find yourself in a spot where you need to calm the rear try loading the suspenion against the rear brake - it gives a little less kick. A technique I learned to use riding PDS rear suspension - and much easier with a hand brake.

Mike,
Thanks, I was acually doing more than usual slipper clutch effect (which I always do anyway), kind of the same effect as your light brake trail technique (which is also good feel technique). As for fuel I cant say about the TXC (I will know soon with my TXC kit) but the TE (Leeeeaaan) will do it. But Man its a race the minute or 2 to splash a gal at the one hour mark is the safe bet, plus the quick breath break/water body splash etc aint a bad idea either. At our ammie level that extra insurance to not run out of fuel is the best bet. (IMHO speaking as a top tier Beee level racer!!! ha) PS the TXC is more than competitive against those 450 guys especially later in the game when you can still throw that thing around and they are getting hammered under braking and power of the 450. (how do I know coming off the TXC450). be safe and make it fun! RN

PS thats not my cam just an example of some open trail (I call them quad trails) STs

Also the most "technical" section of the entire day was relatively short transfer section through a very rock strewn dry stream bed. I would have liked more of that in a ST ( but with a good rear end suspension) it was a real butt pounder with my pogo rear and that's never a good thing in my world. "not that there is anything wrong with that"....

RN - I thought "what's with the blue front fender?" before I realized it was someone else's video. I don't know why but sometimes it's hard to get back into the "groove" if I stop ... besides ... most entries are going to be "teams" of 2 which have to ride alternate laps (10 minute laps) ... figured I'd gain a little back each lap when they stop ... and then they'd have to pass me again :banghead: But you're right ... I should probably stop at around the hour mark and throw a gallon in, get new goggles, give the G.F. a squeeze and go. It's been 105 or so this week but should only be in the 80's for the race.

The promo vid of the course for Sunday is a lot of 50" trail like "your" race vid ... only mostly flat desert in and around cactus and trees ... and 1/2 mile of mx track with a tabletop or 2 and a small double or 2 (what the pro's call whoops).

Spectacular trail - awesome rider - love the squeals of delight. That WR was on fire - don't tell Harry the 310 is even better on trails like that.
RN - great results with a pogo stick in the back.

Cool vid, that Lyles was hauling. On day one he came by me in a test. Downhill two track (badlands trail), he passes me on the inside coming into a corner. He is standing up and pitches the bike sideways. It is sliding into the corner completely broadside, he is standing and has his inside foot handing out in the air. I am thinking this is going to end bad and I just need to figure out how not to hit when he yard sales.

He gathers it together enough to get through the corner, then heads off and does nearly the same thing in the next corner.

Cool race, my score kind of sucked but it was a fun time. I never do well at this event for some reason. I have pics and vid posted.

My rear pogo suspension from the end of Day 2 SP1 until the end of the day. fun stuff on the mountain SP(see above Harry cam for course view). my Sp times reflect the shock fail on day 2, 2nd fastest SP1 then way back for the rest of the day. No dnf that's the key!!
