  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 09 Wr125 stock tank life?

There's no reserve, so I start full, gas at 1h15-1h30 full, and will finish the race with not much left when the race ends around the 2h50'ish.

For a 1h30-2h00 race I would just put little bit in at 1h00 just in case.

Speaking of reserve, I noticed when I rode jsleeper's `09 WR125 that he had no reserve...or at least had the twisty-type like the auxiliary petcocks on my SM610. My `09 WR125 has a regular petcock with off, on and reserve... Did I get the special one?

Some '09 WR125's got the on/off/reserve petcocks. The very foward placement of the petcock on the tank, make this style a problem on steep uphills in the "on" position, when tank is less than full.

How much does the tank hold, compared to your 250? My 250 will run well over two hours at HS pace. I would think the 125 would get at least equal or better mileage than the 250.

Put a small water bottle of pre mix in fanny pack to be on safe side.
Better still, do a practice ride at race speeds on similiar terrain and see what you get. Only you ride like you and will get results that are relevant to you. SOunds like a shitty answer but it IS the only accurate way. Reharsals make success. Luck is the residual effect of planning. Poor planning = bad luck. You get the idea.

Interesting? Do you know why they did that? What do the '10s have?

Believe me there is no worse combination than a small tank and no reserve. A sick joke on the part of Husky I guess.

I had to walk the bike back to the truck about 2 miles with my daughter sitting on the seatt talking the entire time, meanwhile I am on the verge of a heart attack. :D I was the proudest dad ever when we were sputtering to a stop and she said without hesitation, "dada did we run out of gas."

Oh. and tipping the bike over to one side to get the gas on the other side of the tank does not get you very far.

If you are not racing around, the ample airbox room is sufficient for the forementioned small plastic bottle of pre mix and removal of seat is so simple.

My tank is like 1.8 something gallons. 2 Whlr you are correct on the 2 hours. I don't think it will make it. I wish someone had like a clamp/bolt on type tank to go in the room under the tank and between engine? I am just about tempted to make something out of PVC or find a small weedeater tank to fit in my air box and feed about a pint of fuel? Fanny pack might be an option?
I'd hate to find out the hard way, though. Blue husky can go I think up to 2 hours on his 08 but it is 2.51 gallons. So, I am doing the math.

120 Minutes/ 2 gallons = .0166

I should be able to go 90 minutes x .0166 = 1.49 gallons

His has a 144 as well.

 0r

Here are the results:

First only filled gas jug up before race with exactly 3 gallons.

I started with a complete emptied, dry tank and filled it up to bottom of thread lip. I only started the bike to warm it up on the line and that was it. I raced for a total of 1Hr 30Mins. Of that race I spent 8 mins(1/2 lap) in several muddy piles of riders. In that 8mins, I would say that the bike was not running for 7 mins. I took the tank off last night and refilled my gas jug and it was exactly on the 2 Gallon line. I would say that my fuel consumption would have been 1.2 gals in 1hr/30 mins. Not sure if this was a good test because the track was 1/2 mud and couldn't keep it on the gas. It will be interesting to see what happens when I put one of Kelly's PWK's on the bike and keep the throttle on?

That is right....the 250 4t has a battery in there too!

would a PWK get better mileage?

Darin,
where's the ride report on the 125!?!?

I'm really considering buying one, but I want to sample one first. And I'd need to sell a bike first. And consult a divorce lawyer.

Brandon, you know you can ride mine anytime. Be prepared though, as much as you liked riding my 04 CR125 this bike is many times better IMHO. Bills has them cheap :D

PVduker is running this and says it works well.

i used the better part of my 3.4 gallons at my pace when i passed you while stuck in a mud hole. i also have the 144 though.

i would say the smaller engine is under more load then the 250 and requires more fuel to go as fast or faster as a result.

Please!!!

Your best pal Mudd bought a few hundred acres out east by Condon that we're all camping/riding at the following weekend. You should come out and ride 'Mudds trails'.
Inside joke in case y'all are wondering

I know they're slanging them cheap. I'm half tempted to go pick one up and then sell the kawi to pay it off, but my wife would be HOT. Especially with mothers day coming.

Unless I put a big bow on it for her :D
