  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

That's a nice piece Norman.
What's the metal brace thing in the front for?

That's the front mount. Since the dry break hole has to be so big, tank goes over mounting lug. You bolt down mount to frame and then screw it to the tank.

Looks like they did not use much space under the tank? I'm guessing there is no room for a damper mount with it installed? Does it really stick up that high in front? I like the effort but not really what i am looking for. I want all that area below the tank filled.

Guess they wanted a model of tank that would fit the 09 125 as well as 2010 models which have that huge void on the 125 filled with valvetrain. Not cheap to research and mock up and produce so I guess the idea of what worked for most was not the same as what worked for all.

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like a quality unit but I am also looking to throw a damper on and want to keep the fuel weight lower on the bike. It's a shame the 125 has low enough production numbers that it may not motivate anyone to make a tank for it, a 250F tank may work but it's far from ideal.

The tank itself is a work of art don't get me wrong. But there are some issues to be addressed. Are those issues brought forth at the dealer meeting being resolved? Will there be a change to the design? Is there a way to color the tank black? Will it still be available to the public?

My tank is really just a prototype, it's going to keep evolving....
Tank number two has a carbon fiber outer layer, so it's black. This tank will probably go on Glenn Kearney's TC250 race bike. Kevlar tank may look less sexy, but I can see the fuel level in the tank. Jay Hall and Lindsay are working together on putting the tank into plastic production. Lindsay has set the price on handmade Kevlar or Carbon Fiber/Kevlar tank at $1200, because it is so labor intensive due to the complex shapes involved. I doubt he'll sell too many at that price. Lindsay is now working moving the fuel pump location, so the tank can drop lower and increase capacity. Keep tuned!

Black with a clear stripe to see your fuel level in would be great. I'd pay $50 more for a feature like that. Closest thing I've seen is my Gas Gas which has a clear tank with a black cover over the top section. Gives you the nice look of a black tank with the ability to accurately see you fuel level when you are running low.

Hey Norm glad to see you have your camera working.
Great pics of your new tank. I guess you didn't get a chance to mount this one on your bike?
Did Lindsay give you any dates on the others?
I thing a $1200 you're gonna scare a lot of people away.

It would be nice if the price drops....lots.:D and the fuel sits a bit lower in the frame. And I like the idea of a fuel level line like "speedkillls " has mentioned.

Now that you camera is working...lets see some more pics.

so im guessing IMS and Clarke still have nothing for the 09 bikes?

just seems kind of suprising for this popular of a bike.

Not a real big seller in the states.

I've got my P3 tank mounted and will take some pics at NE Husky Gathering and give a ride report with tank full. Drew Smith from WER will be bringing P3 tank #2, so I'll get some pics of that tank too.

Joe Chod's girlfriend Kara, took the pics of both tanks. She'll send them to me or post them here.

To everyone worried about the "hump" and fuel high up.... I filled it full and took it out on some nasty trail and couldn't feel the difference. I've ridden bikes with big tanks, that had the "Monkey on the bars" feel, but this doesn't. I rode Drew Smith's bike with the stock tank and couldn't feel the difference. I didn't ask Drew directly, but he made no comment about the tank, when he rode mine. To me it's invisible, you don't know which tank you have unless you look down. I'm very pleased.
