  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08 te510 rekluse z-start pro installed

well i just picked up a z-start pro and installed it tonight. wasn't too bad for the first time messing with my clutch. the directions were pretty straight forward and if you have an ounce of mechanical talent, you should be able to do the install.
i have it set for medium rpm and hard engagement but i have not been able to try it out yet. i didn't think that breaking in the clutch at 11pm would fare well with my family and neighbors.
anyway, one thing i noticed on my clutch basket was that there were places where there was some minor notching, some places where there was some real slight notching and other places where there was nothing. its definately no where near what the installation pic shows what notching is, mine is more like waves than distinct lines. should i be concerned about this?
i've got my idle speed set at around 1900 rpm's so do you think i'll have to mess with it to get it right fo the medium rpm range?

I think your basket sounds OK to me, you will need to lower your RPM's at idle, I run mine at about 1650. Did you use your new friction discs? If so, was the gap right? Just curious. The only thing that the lower idle seems to affect is starting when cold, it can be a little more finicky.

well i did the break in procedure and all went well. i changed my engine oil after as per the instructions. no noise with mobil 1 15w-50. overall, the whole install was fairly easy. as far as the idle, when in first gear on pavement, the bike creeps forward ever so slightly. i believe my idle rpm is around 1850. i think with it that way, the compression breaking will be just like stock but we'll see when i go for a ride in the woods.
i did get the new friction disks from a 2008 honda crf450 and when comparing them to the stock husky disks, they are the same. or at least as far as i could tell. when installing them in the rekluse, i was able to slide one gauge in but not the other. so as per the rekluse instructions, i'm good.
it was pretty cool riding around my driveway without using the clutch. started and stopped with no problems. cant wait to try it out in the woods on friday, enduro cross class on saturday and a trail ride sunday out in pa.

Even with the clutch fully disengaged (no creep) you will have engine braking as long as you don't lock up the rear wheel. When I lock up the rear down hills I'll give it a quick blip to engage the clutch again.

i'm going to take it for a ride tomorrow and see how it is. now i never messed with my idle, it was that high from when i got the bike. if need be, i'll lower it a tad.

Have fun with that new clutch! Friend and fellow member here just installed same specimen and it's nothing short of a handicap. That's a good thing too. He rolled over some terrain today that I had to muscle over. Two solid hands on the bar without risking a flame out pulled him through very adeptly. It's got me thinking now....Maybe he will post abut his experiences, adjustments etc....?
