Longest running event of its kind in the world. Been around way longer than Baja, Dakar, Finke etc. Everyone should try it at least once. Even if you don't finish you will be hooked to come back again next year for another attempt. I can proudly say i have a 5th place finish in the sidecar class. Awesome event.

OK I will start building a bike. I will choose my moment to ask the wife if it is ok

    I am thinking an 84 510TX...

so why an 84 510TX, I remember the oil heating issues
you could run the UpTite mods on it, but Husky made some great 2 strokes in that era, lighter, less complexity
just curious as after all it is your choice

If we can, we will run a later set of crankcases with bigger bearings and better oil feed. How strict are the rules and do I need a spark arrestor thingy???? !!

  6. Up-tite Husqvarna

That would be no problem, rules are very relaxed, this is without question the Funnest Race on The Planet. If you had a 1969 360 and swapped the motor out for a V-8 LS-1 nobody would care just a 1969 with different motor.
    No spark arrestor required.
This a double Bucket List deal.

This all sounds encouraging! Looking through the parts stock...

Is fuel quality an issue? I don't want to build something that wont run. Also how do I make a Keihin FCR carb look like a dellorto????

Lower comp, get rid of spark arrestor, bigger tank.15-16csp 48 rear, ign?big jets, should have exh done soon.
need Rally roll chart holder and GPS mount.
Moto-Z tires will go the distance.

Dellorto with good body and slide is perfect, super easy to adjust jetting and they always run. 60 PJ,180main.
Just no Hi comp, fuel can be ??? but usually will be fine race gas can be avaliable just to doctor it, if needed.
15-16 csp 48 rear,Moto-z tires nothing bigger than a 120x110or100 don't want too much bite it's to hard on the clutch.
Think in terms of 300+ miles a day about half will be transfer sections speed limited say 60mph on asphalt
(save the bike cruse mode) Special test are 100-185 miles Ride at 65-70% or less it's a long way their are no markings so have to use route chart with notes good resettable ODO, GPS only shows you if off course.

S/A on because we were dialing it in out in Jean, NV got a CR exhaust waiting

Its got a lighting coil wound by Ron Bishop

Some tires and Rally Chart and we are good to go

Thanks for all of the input guys!

I have sent off a frame for stripping and blasting to get things underway....

Could take a while though as I have 2 more Husky Trials bikes to finish and maybe a road race 510 so we can go to the Swedish Arsracet race next July / August - with Husky Trials, Motocross, Enduro and Road race bikes!!!

Not going to do a Speedway bike as that looks properly dangerous!
