If the motoplat has the CDI built into the coil pack [ separate from the stator ] then yes this will work.
If the PVL uses an outside CDI then it should work on them as well.
Great to see that it's working for PEZ , I watched him trying to start the big girl at a recent meeting and it was painfull.
The SEM wiring gets tired and the trigger voltage drops a little.
Then you can't spin the motor [ 400 to 500s get worse the bigger they get ] fast enough to trigger the CDI by foot , which is why you can still clutch start them.
The Chinese CDI uses a lower trigger voltage so it fires at lower REV's.
The only reason I used the Chinese coil is because the Husky coils have the CDI built in.
I have this setup fitted to my 240 as well and it doe's not mind the revs either.
Have been running them for a couple of years now with no problems.
    Cheers [Mike52 on another forum].

PEZBerg I would like to try to do the same unit as what you have shown, but I cant find exactly that system on an Ebay search. Can you help with how to find the same type?

my 83 WR 430 with MZB. Stock clutch basket / crank gear ratios bump no problem. kick just had to have the stars and moon aligned as well as a good TDC swift boot.

With 84 LC or 85 and later smaller crank bigger clutch gear.....starts 1st or second kick....hot or cold. Ratio change or a coil that fires at less RPM are the only 2 solutions.

I have ordered the Chinese ignition parts and will be trying them out. I did not order the set from Australia the shipping was $22 making the total $60+ . I found the cdi and coil and a wiring harness for $18 shipped. I couldn't have done it without the help I got here... Thanks Dukkman, gday and PEZBerg

so would it be worth putting one as mentioned by "gday" on my 82 cr500 with the stock internal rotor ? and will it work ?
i can actually kickstart 75% it if i have something to lean on . however im going to fit a decomp and any stress we can remove from the kickstart gear train the better

After a bit of reading on other sites.
    Don't go with a 4stroke timing curve.
You will probably burn a hole in the piston.

Ok now that this thread is over a Year old has anybody changed there opinion on how this Electrex system works ? I just drove 3 hrs to a race track that I have never been to only to find out they didn't have the necessary hill to bump start the bike. Wile it was still strapped into the truck I gave it 13 prods on the Kicker just to make sure nothing has changed, it hasn't. I have the HPI internal rotor on my big bore, and it acts as per the classic PVL symptoms. Won't start on the Kicker, will start bump starting with one rotation of the rear wheel. Yes I done all the usual fix's changing the timing, 3 different brands of carbs, new Liner and Piston, V3 and Boyseen reeds, thin electrode plug, non resistor Cap. In the web sight it tells me what the external Flywheel weighs, but since I don't know what the stock internal Motoplat weighed that doesn't do me much good. It must add some weight and change the power band some. But if it allows me to unload the bike from the truck I really don't care all that much.

Check with Andy @ HVA he has done some work with Electrex world to ensure fit etc, he also uses them on his special built 300WR's

Gosh, time flies, my last post was 5/29/13. Did I mention I'd try out the MZB shortly? Well, they are still in the unopened box sitting on the shelf. Enthusiasm it creeping back up on the old Husky's so, perhaps sometime soon I might get a chance to put the MZB on the 450.

I'm going to buy a ChinkyChonk system tomorrow and an Adjustable CDI and put the bike on the dyno again to see how it will react.

I have a slight missfire in my SEM now.
    Probably just the Plug-cap.

    Can you evaluate why?

    Do Motoplat have lights?

the factory parts fische shows a Motoplat application for 1987 500, a CR would not be wired for lights as it's a motocross model
but most external rotor Motoplat have a light coil

Nowhere near enough wattage to give you usable lights on a bike that fast!!

i was not inferring the Motoplat was a better choice
just that it was OEM ignition, was wondering if you were aware
the SEM has a bit more light power but erratic spark
