I use the V Force reed set up from HVA on my air cooled 390. They are a brilliant addition. I had the motor on the bench when I fitted them. I did a leak down test and found slight air leaks. Easily cured with a little silicone. My set up is probably a little different to yours, but try a leak down with the reeds and inlet manifold on.

I got a free set to try from Huskydoggg. Well after a few years they leak, i see some fuel wetness/leakage at the bottom of my air box on my 88.

Were were your leaks. I am going to retry. I will do the leak down to, thanks for the info. my 430 would not start at all with them. This was an inital start after a complete rebuild though.

My reeds has two blocks that fitted in a plastic housing (from memory). The leaks were around the edges where the plastic joined. Yours may be a different set up though. It is really worth doing a leak down check.
There are some pictures on here from the build I did of the second 390 Auto motor.
