Bitchin bike, if I was younger I'd acquire one to ride. Great job on the restoration.

If the smoke doesn't clear up you may want to check the fuel oil ratio and/or investigate the crank seal. If you're not going to ride it much then it may not matter so much. I rebuilt a 73 450 recently and after a 30 min ride noticed it smoked at low rpm and was puking spooge out the exhaust manifold. Turned out the crank seal was leaking gearbox oil so I replaced it with a 5mm tall seal instead of an 7 so I could hit a different spot on the stub shaft. Smoking problem is gone.

To bad the 500 doesn't have dual plugs so a de-compression valve could be installed. Put one on my 450, its like starting a 250.

Thanks guys, she is a looker!!:applause: The bike has about 30 min since total rebuild, so I'm running 20 to 1 ratio. A few more heat cycles and I'l start running 32/1. I still haven't pegged the lower rpm range but am getting closer. That's some good info on the seal Crash. I'll have to keep that in mind with some of the beat up stubs I have! Thanks Again! Chris

Yeah it's not so much that it's a beast my knees can't handle it anymore and I'm afraid of falling over all the time cuz it's so tall somebody's going to get a sweet bike that's why I like the early 70s so much smaller shorter the ground

Looks like Jeff sold the 500, I f I had know I would not have sold it to him, But he paid me what I asked. Then used all my Pics, Information and you tube videos without my permission! Nice guy? Whatever!! I got 2 more 450s 72and 74 and a 73 250cr in the wings, My surgery was a success and I am back to work light duty, and physical therapy for the next 8 weeks or so. Hope to be riding by spring. I am looking for a small tank for the 250cr. If you have one to sell let me know. Have you seen all the 80s huskys for sale? they are coming out of the woodwork. I will start another thread for these bikes in the restoration forum.
