    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Zeta LED blinker handguard installation done!

Well, a while back on TT I promised to give these shields with integrated signal lights a try on my Cycra busters so here we have it!

The bolt holes of the stock Cyra shields and the Zeta's are nowhere close to each other. Not a problem, I marked, center punched, and drilled new holes with a 13/64th bit for the Zeta's 6mm Allen screws/bolts. Followed the drilling with a 6mm x 1.0 pitch tap.


The Zeta's new bolts worked just fine in the threads so finished drilling and tapping both sides.


Installed the shields, cut and terminated the 2 wires from each side with the included crimp-on bullet connectors, zip tied the wires securely and Shazaam!


The blink rate is faster than stock blinkers but they blink and I've no longer got broken, gaudy, stock blinkers sticking out there waiting to be snapped off. (3 of my 4 stock blinkers were trashed in the first few rides off road in the "bush") Thanks fitness2go:cry: ,hehe. Also, the last picture shows that the Zeta's aren't as big as the Cycra shields, in height and width, leaving the outer 1-2 inches of guard exposed. I don't know the impact of this yet as temps haven't been low enough here for me to feel a difference.

The shields were purchased from http://www.langstonracing.com/miscpage_010.asp and came with female/male crimp style bullet connectors and mediocre instructions.

Oops, thanks Coffee, you got me on that one. Took the picture before the job was done. Does give a nice comparison though:doh:

Are you using LEDs blinkers in the back?

Yes, I installed the "power up kit" UFO taillight and dumped the stock blinkers for some REALLY low profile LED's. Not DOT by any means but....the price was right, lol.

 
Maybe a different flasher unit designed for LED lights might blink them at the proper rate? I've never looked into that, but understand how a blinker works.
 
Speaking of flasher, I couldn't find mine for the life of me. Searched here and TT for some guidance and the closest I found was behind the headlight. Couldn't locate it there or under the gas tank, plus I didn't really know what they looked like on a bike. Asked Jeff Tasky at the dealership when I was up there and .......................it's back near the battery on the left side next to the positive lead. Well it's supposed to be, anyway, but mine was dangling down in the airbox. Thought it was a sensor of some sort:excuseme:. He and one of the mechanics also suggested just swapping out to a different flasher from the auto parts store and the rate will drop back down. I'm just happy they worked!
 
That looks great. I also went to really small LED rear blinkers on my 610. I love how bright they are / will not be missed.
 
It looks just like the phantom but the one in the kit does not have the slots in the middle of the plastic. Also the oem one comes with a factory molex plug to connect under the seat and completly remove the factory taillight harness.

I need to get some resistors to line out the blink rate, too. I tried a flasher, but it has "stakes" and the OE flasher has "posts", and I really don't want to cut the wire there.
