• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Your thoughts on buying a left over

I have a chance to buy a 2009 sm510 for a good price. Is there anything to be concerned about with a bike that has been sitting around on the dealership floor for about one year plus, has not been started at all.

There is no expiration date that I know of. :)

2009 was a decent year, especially for the sm510. If you want to be doubly sure you could get the vin and see it there were any applicable efi updates, but even then it would not be very expensive to update if it was necessary. You could call Halls.

I took a 2009 sm510 to dynojet, it was almost perfect.

Thank you for the replies. Planning on adding a PC5 soon as the motor is broken in and also have a friend who does all the tuning in the area to check out were things stand. I am a little new to single cylinder world, just a little unsure about these bikes.

last 2 hoosks were left overs.

things to watch for/service/check regardless of brand-

air filter oil.

lube shock lock rings with penetrant and let sit then bust loose so you dont gall the shock body.

service fork seals.

grease all links and bearings.

spokes. (every ride as well)

sprocket bolts. (every ride as well)

check carb for varnish, remove, tear down and scour if any is found.

etc.

Bikes on the showroom floor sometimes get raided for parts. Sometimes it's the dealership trying to get parts in a hurry, sometimes it's unscrupulous customers with sticky fingers.

Check everything.

It'd be a real drag getting such a beautiful bike home and finding out the pinch bolts are missing.

I bought my left over '08 SM610 last year and got a great deal. It's a brand new bike - just last years model. It turned out to be a great bike for how and where I ride. I would buy a left over bike again if I ever need another one.

Yep, Woodsie has nailed it. My mprevious 510, 2x450's and current 310 are all left overs or run out specials. Best buying in town for 2 reasons. I they are much cheaper. and 2 run outs are the end of the line and have the bugs etc ironed out of them. So you get real value and reliability thrown in. Of course with the bucks you save you spend it on after market bits because you can.

I always buy on the back side of the wave on everything I can ... ESP bikes ... These things are over priced 4 me ...
