• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

WR400 ‘GP’ frame colour advice

insignis

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi all, I am returning a 1974 (confirmed by numbers) WR400 to active use. It is now ready for frame painting and it is here that I need some help. I don’t have the full history of the bike, but I do know it spent much of its competitive life on the far south coast of NSW, and was raced well into the 1980s. The suspension was modified, presumably to keep up with more modern machinery. It has ‘laydown’ rear shocks with modified frame mounts to accommodate this, and extended forks, perhaps from a late 1970s Husqvarna. The bike was described as being a ‘GP’ model. The existing frame colour is not the typical Husqvarna silver (I believe people use Ingot Silver Metallic as the closest match. Instead the frame is painted a silvery green, difficult to describe, hence the need for photos. The seller this was a GP colour, though I can find no information regarding this. There are 2 reasons I believe this could be a genuine factory colour, but happy to be corrected. First, when I scratch back through the layers I cannot find the expected silver paint. Second, the warning sticker on the headstock tube looks every bit of its 50 plus years. If this was some backyard job, why bother to renew a warning decal after a respray? All advice and information gratefully received. Thanks
