  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st WR360 vs Modern 300's

Let preface in saying this isn't a slagging match on what's the better bike/brand out there!!

I sit and stare at my lonely 95 WR360 and whilst the 350 4T is getting the glory, I have ridden the Beta 300 and KTM300 but not enough to get a real good comparison on how these modern 300's go in comparison to the 360 (92-02) in torque/power, how does it compare?

I completely understand that the modern ergo's, suspension, brakes and electro's are far and away superior to even the last 360 made but disregarding this, on pure tractability or luggability (as these modern 300's are sold/marketed) is the modern 300's (even the last WR300) motor equal to or better than the 360?

Really interested in owners who have a modern 300 and still have a 360.

I can tell you that this 4T caper is becoming boring and l miss the instant power of 2T let alone the zilch engine braking especially on single tracks lol...but l don't miss not having a button these days;)

Having owned my360 for a while, and having the pleasure of shawbaggas 300 for two days.
I was amazed at how similar both performed it took a half hour to get settled on the300 but after that it was lug it into corner pull throttle power out onto straight.

Didn't have any bad things to say bout 300 in fact think it started easier than360 with very similar characteristics.

If I had the option of a 300 at a good price I would probably take it.

in comparison to the 360, the modern 300's don't have more torque, but they make it up in spades with easier to ride points
basically the smaller engine has less gyro effect, the power delivery is almost as linear as a 360, the charm is they are easier to ride
coming off a corner on a 360 you have to be more careful or you get too much,,,, and that wears on you, I think that for a 5 minute ride or a high speed open area ride the 360 has an advantage in it's ability to carry top speed via more power, but that power can wear on you in tighter terrain, I rode my 300 on some single track and was amazed at how easy it was to push into corners, it really is stupid easy to ride
so to compare,, the 300 requires less energy, if I was competing it would be my choice for sure

Still got my 360 rancher1 probably never part with it, just gauging opinion's as l never wanted a new 2T because the 360 did everything that the 300's did but that was like 2008!!!
Now, having been a 4t rider for the past 2 years and with the current crop of 300's...the question is do l lash out on a new 300 or wait until the DI/FI 2 bangers come out??

Either way, l'm pretty hardline these days that l won't kickstart a bike ever again unless l have too...hence the poor 360 sits under cover these days.

No kick start a bike?!? Omg your living up to your avatar name omg!
To not have to kick start the360 now that would be ace.

Been toying with that idea Shawry for a while now but for the cost involved it's not worth it really these days.

Juicy...if only the 360 was LH drive l reckon someone in the world would have fabbed a button start...then you could grab a modern rolling chassis and happy days - if only!!!

I know a bloke that was working on an estart for his wr300. I saw first hand footage of it spinning the flywheel. Don't know if he progressed any further. Wanna swap top ends for a while OMG?

where was the starter placed??

Dunno mate he kept it pretty hush hush just showed me a video of it cranking flywheel. Aircraft mechanic/engineer so fairly cluey! I'll see if he got any further with it

The new 300 two stroke bikes come in different models with differing wideness of transmission ratios. 360 wr means woods racer not wide ratio, 348.8cc. 300 ktm is 293.2cc. The ktm/husky platform has one powervalve spring to adjust and one to swap out. That and the pipe options would take a lot of experimenting to answer what is being asked here. The crank is filled on the 300 models even the last of the Italian Husky ones, maybe all of them, 2004 on I think. The new 250/300 has damping in the clutch that likely will have an effect on the tractability not sure about luggability.

Don't think you could just bolt on the barrel and piston on a 2K WR250...could be wrong!!

Thanks for the offer Shawry, but l reckon the I'll/we'll be getting rid of the WR250 as the bro is thinking of getting a Beta 300...although the 250 will be in a 95 WR360 rolling chassis:D

Yup me to!

But what does CR stand for then?

Got it. Course rider.

Woods rider and course rider that's what it stands for.
