  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

250-500cc wr360 lean or rich? help needed.

A slightly lean mixture can give an intermittent bog when under load. My bike would occasionally bog when snapping the throttle at low revs (to pull the front up at low speed). I found it was related to engine temperature. After riding hard there was no bog but after a couple of minutes of low speed /light load riding it would bog when trying to lift the front because it had cooled slightly. One step richer needle diameter and all was sweet.

Don't confuse the normal 2t crackle at light loads/ small throttle opening with being rich, this is normal. Because a 2t carb doesn't squirt fuel in when the throttle is snapped open it must have a slightly rich state of tune at light load or it'll bog when the throttle is snapped.
If it doesn't foul plugs and responds well at low speed I'd say it's ok at the 0 to 1/4 throttle range.

From your description I'd suggest trying the needle clip in a richer position and test ride it. You could also try a main jet one size richer too. Only try one at a time or you'll end up lost. Don't be afraid to try a richer setting, it won't hurt the engine, be careful going leaner though.

that sounds pretty accurate actually with the bogging as its not all the time just sometimes when I hit the throttle fast, and yeah im looking at getting some jets and playing round with it soon as I can but I have a gearbox to repair in another bike so im out of money for the moment haha

Hope the info helps mate. Try to look at tuning as fun by improving your bikes performance and not a chore that interrupts your riding.

I need to learn more about carbys so bad you lost me with half of this but I do understand some of it and im learning more, and ahh it bogs down sometimes not all the time so im not sure its jets anymore but possibly the air leak/reeds like said above but I do still plan on learning/trying to tune the carby just incase or incase I can at least make it run better so thanks for the very handy info its a good start :)

pretty much yeah visual is better but generaly if I read something enough times i'll get it in the end lol, ohh and thanks for the link its very handy for someone like me

got bit in 67, still have not recovered, as they say at the recovery groups
I am addicted and admit it :eek: (don't plan to put it down though) :D
 
well regardless of my actual problem I'm sure I've received enough information to rectify my problem from this thread thanks all you wise people appreciate it, as soon as I fix the gearbox issue on the wifes 4 atv I will have some spare money to start working toward fixing my issues :)

Did you sit on it & make engine noises noobee?! Maybe just twist the throttle a few times to make sure it's ok?!
Sometimes I jus measure & pour 2t oil into a jerry can ready(for 2 weeks away!) to go just to smell it. I tell myself & missus I jus like to be prepared. I have some very serious issues.
 
Actually I just got the WR forks completely rebuilt with new seals, bushings, valving, and springs. I finally took it off the stand and bounced on it last night to see how they feel. Thank you ZipTy!

Not much different than making the animal noise for the animal shape of the animal cracker you are eating.
