  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Wr125 fork oil

Hi all, I'm looking for advice.

I'm riding a 2013 wr125 with kyb oc forks.
I just gave my forks their first oil change. The manual specifies an oil height of 140mm with Kayaba KHL15-11 oil, that I understand to be 5wt oil. Stupidly I didn't measure the oil height before draining them, doh.

I've used motul expert 5wt oil. I know different brand oils can be different in viscosity even though they're all labelled 5wt.
I've set the oil height at 140mm but the oil appears very low in the fork, sitting around the top of the cartridge chamber. I'm wondering what oil height and brand others have used.
Just for the record I weigh 80kg + riding gear and like long walks on the beach.

Cheers.

If you do go for Maxima, I just recently found Maxima 5wt standard fork oil (IIRC) which I haven't used. What I'm using, and I think others too, is Racing Fork Oil.

I went riding today, track was a mixture of sand whoops with hidden rocks, hard pack with square edge bumps/holes and sharp rocks.
I've always been happy with the forks in whoops, but a cant believe the difference in sharp impact absorption a simple oil change can make. No more head shake, no more jarring wrists, no more gritting teeth when you see a hole in the braking area. Woohoo!!
I went with standard oil height and weight so I had a known starting point. I did bottom harshly once on a large (for me) jump to flat landing, so I'll add 10ml of oil to each leg and probably call it done. No wonder there's bugger all threads on fork settings compared to the number on jetting. Lol
