  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc WR CR 250 STARTING

Husqvarna
AA Class
How many kicks is it taking you guys to start. I usually kick about six times before she fires. Needs choke just to start but not after. Has stosk tmx mikuni. Seems rich but runs awesome after shes warm.

You don't need to change the carb. The pilot jet may be a little rich or you can lean it out with the air/fuel screw.

a 95 360 can start 1-3 kicks pretty regular with the factory carb (tmx)....i would do compression check before anything

One kick(truly) on my 09 wr250 mikuni jd kitted(420mj, white needle #4).
Check your float height(7mm for tmxx) makes a big difference if out.

what year is it ? we recently acquired a 89 wr250 and it is odd too . cold with choke takes 5 kicks . but if it doesnt start by 5 kicks it wont . ignore it and try again later . once warm its no problems . was there a knack to it or a common problem . bike seems low hours and performs well in all other regards

starting is pretty much compression, timing, and carb condition/setting. of course there are other things that will help or hurt..if compression is good im betting carb. sometimes a carb does get worn out or a pilot plugged. other times someone tries to clean the jet and they get damaged

89 WR250 is vintage Cagiva relabeled, 1992 they started "almost" fresh on the 250 with the intent of creating a 360 out of the bottom end, so 89 had Motoplat, early flat slide Mikuni, and you name it

2001 WR250. One kick.

My compression is getting a little low. I have jetted (TMX) to the best I can with it's current condition.

Choke at cold, fall through starter once then quick kick at top of compression.

95 360 started fairly easy with tmx dialed, got even easier with lectron. 2 kicks cold, 1 kick hot. took me awhile to get the hang of kicking more "back" instead of "down"

then again i was raised through my teens and 20s with a kicker on my left side..so ive learned over the years how to kick just about anything

Many moons ago I broke my right leg in a head on, on my KX500. I soon learnt to kick with my left leg standing on a milk crate. When I bought a left start ktoom people couldn't believe I could start the 620 so easily. I feel comfortable kicking with my left or right on a left or right start bike.

any ideas why the 89 ate 2 sparkplugs in a weekend ? is this a plug issue ? what is stock plug anyway ? or a weak coil etc problem ?

What sort of ate? Ash grey or black clag? Most likly jetting or if youve got a resistor type plug cap thats probably breaking down if you just lost spark but new plug sorts it for a few hours.
Check ht lead and change plug cap if your sparkys look good they will still be good i use non supressed caps n plugs had this issue in my kmx ffs not again change plug etc only to find its the cap still got 9 ngk plugs dont think i will be needing a new one for a few years.
