  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

stopped in at my local dealer the other day and he has 1 250 and 1 300 left in stock. which one woudl u guys recconmend? i'm coming off a yz250f and i'm done with 4 strokes. i plan to mostly ride trails and maybe a hare scramble or other off road race here or there.

i would suggest the WR250 with the right pipe [FMF Gnarly ] and the PWK carb. The WR 300 is a really good stroker but takes some care in driving, well now that i think about it get the WR300 and you will never complain about power again. It will dazzle you and still handle very well [ extremely well ]. It's a rush. WR250 for fun; WR300 for force.

would it be plain stupid to suggest the 300 with a gnarly fmf?
what displacment is the 300? as i was mildly suprised to find the 360 was shy of 350cc, any logic behind this or was it random anyone know?

300 gets my vote, two bikes in one. Scream it like a smoker or lug it like a thumper! I love mine, but I love my :notworthy:144 even more!

[quote="Gotlabs, post: but I love my :notworthy:144 even more![/quote] You have now officially crossed over to the lighter side. On the 250 vs 300 question...I think I'd go with the 250. It's closer to the 165 I have.

Coming off a 250f the wr250 alone is going to be a little more of a beast than what your use to. I've had alot of 250 2strks and I really like how I can ride a gear up (like the 450's) on the 300 and still manage to get up the hills etc. My opinion, if you can like to ride a gear high go 300, if you ride most of the time in the meat of the power go 250. Both bikes will get the job done.

most guys i have talked to said the 300 in any bike is easier to ride with more torque. i see alot of guys running the 125's with the kits. honestly i never even considered it but it seems to be popular, why is that? what does that thing do that makes it a popular choice? i may end up buying 2 bikes in the end as my girl already is on my case to get one. so maybe a 125 and a 250/300. sounds like a 300 for me though, i want to be able to lug it every now and then if needed.

How much do you weigh? I'm 155 lb. and find that my WR250 has plenty of torque to lug up the technical climbs and I can ride it faster longer than a 300.(that's at almost 8000 ft. above sea level- down approx 20% in power). If I were heavier/stronger I think I'd want a 300.

I've got a WR250... Plenty of power all around for trails and turns good also everywhere .... And I can see what the others are saying on the 300s for power ... I do alot of mountains DBL type stuff with lots of rocks, deep water gullies, rocks of all sizes ... Can't always maintain speed so I'm pulling from low RPMs many times ... So I'm twisting the throttle (almost never in 1st gear) and feathering the clutch trying to keep traction and let the engine REV some at the same time ... I really like this kind of riding ... The 300 would probably power through alot of the stuff without so much rider effort and control ..

300s could probably be geared way-up for HIW speeds also ...

300

If you really want to have a good time show up at an AMA Dualsport ride with one that has had the 6 speed conversion done. You will have one of the fastest dirt bikes there.

I have one of those 125's with the kit; WB165 kit. What makes them so popular IMO is their light weight, unreal handling, and their ability to lug like a much bigger bike or scream like a 125; your choice. They don't wear you down like a 250/300 either. If you get your girlfriend one I have a feeling you may end up with two :D.
