  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Wr 250 engine problems! Any ideas

To add to oneal's comment, I have seen on some engines where someone replaced the head bolts with longer head bolts that extended down into the cooling passages and restricted the coolant flow. Most cylinders don't have the head bolt holes tapped all the way through but it's another thing to look for.
Lankydoug that's an interesting one thanks I'll check that as well. Even if it's not causing it I want to eliminate it as a future problem :-)

Just lurking here in the wings hoping you find the problem. I've got a new to me 06 and it's been a solid performer since way before I got my hands on it. Always great to get a bike from someone who knows their stuff..

However knowing what happens is always good for future reference. Wish I had more experience with this motor or I'd have something more to add other than good luck!
Cheers Huskynoobee

It's Fixed I took a punt on the second hand head and it is all good now so it must have been a crack in the head! Hasn't used a drop simceThanks to all who contributed ideas.
I idled it to 80 deg on the head (would start pumping it out at 75) and not a drop then rode my test loop - previously would loose about 500 ml on the loop which has a couple of kms of tar some singletrack and then a little open stuff and again not a drop! Yippee Just need to get some time for a decent ride! My wife wants me to sell it she reckons it's the land rover of the motorbike world but it now has a top end done new water pump bearings and seals and it's got the vapour speedo with temp gauge so I reckon it should be all good
Thanks again guys
