  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR 250 built thread

i started to take all parts off the frame, cleaned it and made a list of things which needs to be done...IMG_20151016_211054.jpg IMG_20151016_213122.jpg
I cleaned the frame with degreaser and a cloth- looks ok to me.
I m not spending money on a nice paint job- the frame stays like this.

When i took the triple clamps off i did not even think about grease beeing inside the head stock bearings- just remembered the swingarm bolt full of rust... BUT !IMG_20151016_211727.jpg
Because i was just in the mood i did test fit some parts to the frame.
This is how it turned out:IMG_20151016_223814.jpg IMG_20151016_231003.jpg

I spent some time in my Garage today...
i did split the cases and replaced the main bearings and the crankshaft- as the bike did run in hollands deep sand i thought these might be shot- and they were!IMG_20151102_180837.jpg

checked the gearbox- looks great IMG_20151102_182152.jpg

put everything back in its place IMG_20151102_183625.jpg

almost finished !

piston in tdc IMG_20151102_191956.jpg

lower positin- why is the exhaust port fully open but the transfer ports only about 2/3 ? IMG_20151102_190518.jpg

i hate problems- but the previous owner did a good job welding the cases- everything works fine IMG_20151102_175835.jpg

Did you run it already?
Mine is apart also, big end failure. Mine had big squish number, like 1,8mm.
But has compression ratio of 8.17:1.
Dont know how much you took off the head?

nope- didnt run it yet- i thought the same when i was looking at the picture here... maybe i will take the head off again and double check.

Without any math, i think even if you took only 0.2mm off the head
you are in danger of detonation. Do not know wich engine you have, mine is 2003.
This because of not ideal squish number and higher compression ratio.

Easy way was to take the cc of head apart from cilinder/piston, shave it to squish 1mm
repeat proces of taking cc and then adjust the pocket to correct cc...
These are great bikes, have fun with it

I find this thread so very heart warming! Having done several rebuilds over the last decade it is great to see others doing the same thing! My local wrecker has a few dead husky wr's lying around the yard & I hate to see such brilliant pieces of engineering just sitting there rusting away. I should probably just buy them as a winter project! keep up the good work!

Yes Smokey, I agree you should acquire those wr's and bring them back to life. I personally like the wr's more . Good luck

Spent some time working on the swingarm bearings today.
