  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR 250 2T 2004y Transmission oil ATF?

My WR doesn't like the Rotella 15-40 either. Lots of notchy-ness and missed shifts until it gets real hot and thin.

Might have to try that Devloc stuff.
Where do you get it at Mark?

Just about anywhere you would find Rotella. I but the 5 gallon jugs from Fred Meyer.

These days, I use just about anybody's brand of 80 wt transmission oil. I used to use 30 wt motor oil, but can't find that any more. Lots of sulfur in regular transmission oil to help cushion gear contact.

Be carefull with trans/gear oils with sulfur, they can corrode non ferrous metals. (Spoken from hearsay not experience) :excuseme:

As far as ATF goes I have used it with no problems. Changed every 1 or 2 rides.
Ford Type-F is the one that doesn't have the friction modifiers, the clutch will grab better.

Currently running Rotella 15-40.
I would like to try something thinner like ATF to see how it starts in gear but my cases get hotter on this bike than any other bike I've had
And no I don't slip the clutch much at all.

I've been using Bel Ray Gear Saver (light) for years now in all my bikes. In the WR 250 I can, (with a pop box ) start a Cross Country in gear, but its tough. All the "old school" husky motors had a lot of clutch drag and the adjustment is critical.
Now my sons CR 125 is a no brainer with the same oil and because its a 125 he abuses the clutch a lot more than on the 250.

The guy from EFM recomended ATF for the autoclutch in my 09 wr125, and that is what I have, but about half of you have me worried.
I have heard of people mixing ATF and motor oil 50-50

going green fer the planets sake...

i use beer. at the end of a long hot ride it tastes better than oil and you can bet yer bippy it'll get drained and refilled for next week weeeeeeeee!
