  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Wow this coulda been bad!

Is this the coil stick or something? I'm assuming something wore through(wires touched), shorted/sparked & caused small fire or extreme heat. Melted zip tie, wiring, sheath over stick & part of plug connector from reg/rec! Bike hasn't missed a bear aside from speedo failing for half an hour then came good!

Righto after looking at parts fiche it appears this thing is a resistor, albeit an expensive one($155+ here)!!!

My plan is to strip all the roadworthy wiring off & run it mx style like I do with my wr300. I.e no headlight/wiring-no dramas! Speedo runs direct off yellow wire & is the only thing that draws any power.
What does this thing/resistor(?) do? I'm shite with electrical but assume it's to do with rec/reg or ignition? Can I delete this from the wiring all together? Any help be appreciated. Cheers

That's bad brother. But, could have been worse. Wish I could be more help, but I'm lost on what that resistor is needed/used for and if it can or can't be deleted.

Does this help?
Looks like the resistor is providing a constant earth path for the 12v power circuit. Perhaps you could replace it with a generic resistor (it's specs are on the picture)

Not sure but I think I remember Bills telling me that the yellow wire hanging down on my 09 wr250 was supposed to be left that way too keep it cool and not to tie it up with the other wires. I can't tell from the burnt aftermath if it's the same wire or not. :excuseme:

Makes sense....resistors get hot.

Luckily seems like minimal damage, ignition seems ok. Hopefully new resistor & bit of wiring & good to go. It was zip tied up out of the way to keep it safe so yeah maybe just got too hot?! Odd after 4 years to do it now though, wasn't a hot day really either & plenty of airflow. I'm no fire investigator, although I did watch the movie backdraft, but looks like heat started at resistor

Got a mate who's a auto leccy so I'll see what he reckons about a normal resistor. Cheers for wiring diagram Oldscool

Haven't got around to sorting wiring yet just gonna re-ring it first. Bought a little end bearing for a Honda cr125 which are the same as husky 125 supposedly. You guys reckon should change it out when doing ring or leave it alone. It's done 52ish hours(yeah I know I said I'd do it at 30-40 but life's busy & just kept riding!). Think I have spare clips. It gets revved pretty hard a good 50% of it's life! Hopefully piston all good(Walt's forged Wiseco) for another 50 hours.

Oh and one other question. Gotta do top end on 300(on 130ish hours on this 3rd piston-Wossner forged which again is way over planned 100 hours!:)), is there a little end bearing from another brand that fits? Yz/cr/ktm? Cheers

Hi Shawbagga long time no talk! The last piston I put in my 300 was a KTM piston,so if the pistons are the same the little end should be as well.
Still got my 125 and 300 but like the look of the Sherco ser 300, very tempting, problem is every time I ride my wr300 I like it more and more, just be handy to have an electric leg,I must be getting old!!

Yeah I sent a coupla emails & turns out ktm & beta are same bearing which is good.

Yeah I gotta admit an estart would be nice in certain circumstances. 6 speed too! Still can't complain about the old 300 it's still a grunty beast, just getting old & tired! :(

Mate bought a 17 300sefr, nice bike even if has 2 strokes too many!
