  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Would the four stroke huskys be a "good buy" right now?

Now because of the merger or whatever the hell is happening with ktm? Had someone who's in the biz(whos opinion I really trust) tell me this.

Because if so i want to have cash set aside to snag one.lol Any 450/511 thats made in last two years i drool over but currenty have a wr300 for now. Id be will to sell my fj1200 to get my hands on a 511 (within last 2 year old)and duel sport /adventure bike it. I think they are awesome and from what I have read reliable as a hammer. Rode 2011 450 and loved it****************************************

No such thing as a 450 made in the last 2 years, they are 449s. 450s ended in 2010.

That's one seeeexxxxeeeyyy boat anchor. My goal its to add a 511 to the stable to go with my 449.

Wow, touchy touchy...

I think he has a valid question. This isn't about the sale and I think he's looking for some help.

I'm with ray_ray, I tend to look to this sub-forum as a place for technical knowledge on keeping my Husky running good, if the question from the OP is about the sale of the Husky brand, I think it doesn't belong here. The question and any answers would tend to be speculative and subjective, not really fact-based info.

I disagree. His question is based on the availability of parts and support. There are many many threads in this forum that ask these types of questions. Especially by those with older bikes. If I had a similar query I would ask it here.

I would want to ask the people who own them currently what they know. Jumping on his case just because some folks here are tired of seeing other threads in the news forum is unwarranted IMHO.

Calm down, people are talking, things are changing, its all up in the air and people are anxious. This is not cancer and BS it is real people reacting to real circumstances. Still a great forum full of the same people loving the same brand. IMHO.

I also am keeping an eye out for fire sales. Love these bikes and will grab one if i can afford it. Would love to have a TC449 all stripped down for off road only.

Rode my 511 yesterday for 74 miles of DS after work. Was fantastic and smoked my buddies KTM 450 everywhere. Wheelies forever, handles great, feels like a magic carpet ride. LOVE it.

I dont care what the mags and others say, this is a fantastic bike. I'll just keep it forever.

Well time to go home, great evening for a ride. We did lots of gravel, 2 track and some pretty gnarly single track, bike was excellent on all of it.

While his wording "boat anchor" might piss some people off i think his intent for this post is good. He wants to buy one and has actually ridden a 449 and liked it. I think we are all over reacting to the sale and are on edge.

I've read this thread several times, and I still do not know what you mean by the title:
Would the four stroke huskys be "boat anchors" now?
  1. Do you mean are the 4st Husqvarna 449/511 bikes are as reliable as a boat anchor? (or possibly 'anvil' could be used instead of boat anchor)
  2. Do you mean they are not fun?
  3. Do you mean they are slow because an anchor generally holds people back if they forget to bring up the boat anchor and try to leave where they were moored?

I think he means the price of a Husky four stroke will go down and be equal to or less then what a boat anchor costs. I have not bought a boat anchor before so not sure what that cost is. I bought a Husky TR in Canada and it cost as much as a small boat, so you can go from there. I don't think Canada will be seeing any fire sales of Husky products.

I believe he actually means no parts available and it won't run, might as well use it for a boat anchor.

But he really likes them, has ridden one and likes it and wants to sell his FJ to get one???
