  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi there,
My first questions here in this forum.
My WR250 is a 2000 version with an HGS exhaust and Reiger boutique front fork/suspension
I just got it since 6 months after an absence of 20 years in dirt biking.
In terms of handling and stability, I think this bike doesn't feel outdated at all.
The only down side is, that I miss some raw power that you'd get from a 2 stroke motocrosser.
I was wondering if the WR's of those years are pherhaps a bit mild mannered or should they have to go berserk in the first 3 gears when I open throttle?
The only 2 stroke material to compare, is with another WR which I chased for some time during a mud race..that bike didn't rip the grass neither (sort of speak).
On another day I met an older KTM 250 2 stroke in the deep sand, we had about the same acceleration.
The enduro's here in Holland are higher speed flat open terrain, with most of it in deep mud or heavy dune sand..you need some hp for that.
I'm not sure if the piston is still very fresh, the previous owner said 20 hours, but I will do a new top end to be sure.
So how can I uncork this WR on a budget?
Anyone who did some fiddling with the Honda CR250 Reed housing?
Which years would fit?
I could go V-force 3, but it is quite expensive I think, and I heard a lot about chipped reeds with them.

If you want to go fast then throw your budget out the window.Buy a husqvarna cr250 ignition and have the head milled and you'll get the snap you want out of it.

yep, that and a pipe that make different power are about all the mods that motor should need. Make sure it is fresh and up on compression and they are as fast as any other 2 stroke 250. Faster than most. I rode a 2000 CR250 once with a pipe, race gas and the carb rejetted but otherwise stock and it was VERY fast.

Get the head modded first, it added instant snap to my 300.
If you don't have enough power after that get a 300 cylinder :D

Head modding, ignition, cr gearbox...sounds like €
Maybe I should lower my ambitions a bit.
Firstly doing a top end would be good idea probably.
I could also go to a 12 tooth on the front for a start
