  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Will I kill my TE450 riding road 20-30 mins a day to commute?

Hi All,

First time on here so sorry if im posting in the wrong thread.

I have recently purchased a 07 TE450, I wanted a bike that I can commute in and out of work, about 20-30 mins, then shoot out to the national park or blue mountains from Sydney every 2/3 weeks.

I've read a lot that this bike is not to be ridden other than short 10 minute rides between trails. I am concerned I have bought the complete wrong bike.

Any help or advice here would be great as I dont want to damage the engine on city riding. I did ride it back from Cronulla, looong ride for such a bike but going forward I would be looking at 45 min out to the national park.

Has anyone on here driven a 450TE on road regularly? Should I sell and buy another bike? I used to own a Suzuki DRZ250 which was fine, just wanted more power.

Finally, i am looking to insure the bike and there's two model options for the 2007 TE450 MY07 and MY05, my rego has no mention of which model my bike is, is there any way i can find this out?

Cheers

Firstly yeah your in the Austrian section not BMW/itallian as your bikes 07.

Secondly you should be fine commuting on that rig.
Just keep ontop of servicing an oil changes and you should be golden.

Yeah if you're worried about it maybe swap to a larger countersprocket or a smaller rear sprocket to reduce RPMs at highway speeds

I had an 06 TE510 that for a summer I was commuting 97miles round trip a day on. Fastest roads were 55mph and I had no problems. I did what Teeszy said and dropped 2 teeth off the rear.

that bike that you purchased is really a trail bike. not too enjoyable on the road. internal gearing is wrong for that and no counterbalancer. I would say it is the wrong bike to commute daily on. you will wear the motor out and not have any fun doing it. use it to connect trails . Dan

Lol wrong bike pmsl I'm on a 360 2smoke an commute 14miles each way most days. Last engine re build was two years ago. Still got good compression.
Wearing the motor out... they're made to be used for enduro that's a hella harsh environment compared to the road.

Just keep ontop of those oil and filter changes. Check your valves. You will be fine.
An I enjoy my ride even on a bog wheel, better than being in a car any day.
