  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hello, I might be a bit off topic here but I see a lot of Pictures with Bikes on Workstands that have a foot jack to lift the bike. I think I am in the market for one of my own, as I'm getting to lazy to lift my bikes onto the stand that I have. So dose any stand stand out as a better one ? I would rather pay more for a good one than get a good deal on a cheap one. As I have some XC-WR Frames and they have the added bar below dose any one work better there. Yes I can Fab a couple of blocks to work like I did on the Stand I have now. Thanx....

Not sure what brand mine is, but it's on wheels - being able to push it around on the stand makes life easy. It also has a slot cut into the lifting plate that suits the husky frame. Got it of ebay.

Great thread....also looking for this option as well..you can see from the pic in my avatar that lifting this beast up onto it is getting easier but.........would love to find one with a foot pedal actuator and cutout to assist with oil changes? Hoping for some good pics and prices...perhaps a company that gives CH members a discount as well ;)

I started with a Torin ATV/ Cyle jack that worked well for me for about 6 years until the hydraulic jack upper seal failed and the fluid pumped out while jacking up the KX250 I am rehabbing. I ended up getting a slightly used Craftsman jack to replace it. I wanted the Craftman originally but my wife found the Torin for $50 cheaper. I will keep the Torin and replace the jack with something from Harbor Freight as I like it for the dirt bikes. I am getting old enough that it hurts sometimes to lift the front end of the 400WRX to get a workstand under the cradle

I'd agree with Jim 100% on the Craftmans motorcycle jack, my wife bought me one a few years back & i thought i'd hardly use it. Turns out it's the tool i use the most in the garage.
Also look carefully at the MX style foot pump MX jack stands as there kind of narrow, I got this one as a present .
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.co...and.aspx?SiteID=SLI|Lift Stand&WT.MC_ID=10010 . Works great, because it's got 2 foot pedals, but you have to make 100% sure it in the middle of the bike or as it get all the way up the bike can slide off. I may try to widen the pad with something (wood or plastic)

I use this Harbor Freight lift for anything from lifting my Harley to dropping the motor out of my Porsche. And of course, lifting my dirt bikes.

But it doesn't have the convenience of tossing into the back of the truck for use on the trail (you need one of those simple tubular frame units that you wedge up under the bike frame and simply stand on the long handle to let leverage lift the bike...cheap and effective, my bro' uses one for his CR500).

Yes, it's a Husaberg. However, it works just as well for a Husqvarna-----------or a Harley. Well, we assume it works for a Harley, the lift has not been Hog tested yet and is only rated at 6000 lbs.

Seems like it depends on what you are doing, but the table lifts sure make working on your bike much easier and actually enjoyable. The mechanical and hydraulic lifts like the Craftsman are handy for tire changes, suspension work etc, but not so great for oil changes. I really like my Craftsman and use it a lot. There were some though, that had hydraulic problems and I fitted a regular bottle jack to fit mine. No matter what your frame irregularities are, you can make an adapter from lumber or whatever to fit your bikes frame. See the lumber on the Craftsman below:
I have two of the Harbor Freight table lifts, so one can be for long term projects and still leave one free for small repairs.

Good to have options. The tables are great for getting things up at eye level. Last time I had one, I was too young and spry to appreciate it.

The scissor lifts are nice, but the minimum height is often a bit too much, you have to grunt lift it onto the stand.

The ATV jacks are great if you don't need to bring it with you when riding.

Table jacks are great for major work, but you need a jack to put on the table if you want to remove wheels. Or a different stand for just that, but sometimes you want to work on the bike at a height with the wheels off. They make scissor jacks just for this purpose, but they aren't cheap.

I had a Team Hawg scissor jack for several years.
Great for wheel and suspension maintenance, not great for oil changes.
I broke one of the rollers (my fault) and then the jack failed.
It was a touch high to roll under my DRZ-SM, even with 18/21" wheels on it.
Don't think the TE511 would have that issue.

Replaced it with an air/hydraulic table lift
http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8133860/Motorcycle/1,000-lb-Air/Hydraulic-Motorcycle-Lift
and a simple mx lift like the first one on this page:

Really nice to use for almost anything but does take a lot of space in the garage.

I also have one of the DRC stands with the hydraulic drop cushion.
An older version of this:

Very tippy, I do not suggest you leave a bike on this stand as it is.
I bolted a couple 2x10s under it to widen the platform and added tie-down points.
Much better now, though less portable.
My Scorpa usually rests here.
