  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Which to buy...TE 450 or TE449???

Thor

Husqvarna
A Class
I've been waiting for more real world info on the '2011 TE449 to come out in order to decide between buying it or a '2010 TE450. Now that some of the preliminary press impressions are out I'm leaning towards a deal on a TE450.

Any thoughts???

Thanks,

T.

So what press are you concerned with? Nothing but maybe the tank size sounds like any type of a real issue on the newer models from all that has been written ... Wrench turning might make maintenance a bit harder but if you are a 450 guy and not afraid of 1st yr model, it should be a good bike ... The 511 is just a bored 449 ~480CCs or so ... U might wanna consider that bike also ...

I would recommend a test ride if possible, the 449 rides a bit different. Tough to describe.

One review I read said that the front tends to wash in corners unless you ride way up front. Of course, the seat allows you to park your goodies practically right on the steering stem...

Yes, it is lighter in the front, and takes a different technique. Hence one of the reasons it seems incredibly difficult to me to compare it to others.

the new Bergs are much like that. i think it has a lot do do with getting the 15-20 pounds of gas off the top/front of the bike. The Berg felt like the front would wash out because it felt 2 stroke light in front. Once i adjusted I feel the Berg is one of the best handling 4 strokes out there.

Agreed. I've got a feeling once people get used to the bike they will find the handling amazing, especially when ridden hard.

Well, it's been pretty doucumented already that the CTS system makes the bike "stand-up" in the corners with throttle and makes it difficult to break the rear loose to pivot. Also not shure about a Kymco motor?

Probably an idea to wait for others to test the 449/511. I haven't ridden one so can't comment, but I did own a G540X. If the Husky has any simillar traits ie very difficult to steer with the throttle, the motor had problems with the crank cracking, recommended crank servicing at 70 hours, mine used to overheat regularly plus far too many other problems. I should have waited as some of these issues didn't become apparent straight away then as the model became older common problems started to show.
I have since bought a WR300 which I think is fantastic and I am sure you wouldn't be disappointed with TE450. These are just my opinions as I know some G450 owners love them but I definately would be wary.

It's NOT a Kymco motor. It's only assembled by Kymco. Under BMW QA.

Mine is here (TE511) so i can start crying or having a party, time will tell.

as i ahve to wait a week or two to ride it as it is going directly to the carbon fiber guy for some frame and pipe guards. Should have cool product for this bike semi shortly. Already getting requests from our European friends.

Giving your much anticipated bike away to get fitted for new part developement is Definately a huge thing- thanks for taking one for the team!

I had the similar kind of choice to make. The TE511 or the TE510. I went for the 510, because it has a fuel tank that could be upsized. We go on long bush rides in Australia and a small tank under the seat, that can't be changed, is far from ideal. Apart from that, I just wanted something more Husky, without the stronger BMW influence. That was simply my personal preference. Good luck with your choice.

Reading about and seeing all the places U guys ride in the states and around the boonies in the world... U certainly need to carry plenty of fuel with you ...
