  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Where do I start?

I haven't had a bike miss at WOT with normal carbs so I doubt its carb related
(It would have to be seriously rich to do that )
Could it be stator - been through water ?

Youll probabaly be quicker on the 165

Yeh I'm gonna take cover off n wd40 the bejeebuz outta it! Mite jus take the 165 to be sure. After 4 hours probly b thankful!

I doubt it's plug cap if she starts and rides fine until you give her some beans, think my pj on 360 is fully lean and here is summer so like your winter but wetter.
Yeah try fuel don't change mix ratio and try with pj fully shut.. just see if that helps. Don't go mad riding incase it is too lean. you will know throttle will start to run away, and hang when you cut it.

If all this fails take 165, you were quick on the 125 so you will be fine.

Right, but pretty sure Dave at Lectron told me PJ was 3/4 and up stock. I was wrong once before though
that could be how the 300 is..or maybe they all are? my lectron on the 360 came with one that worked 1/2 and up, so it could be model specific.

I doubt it's plug cap off she s streets and rides fine until you give her some beans, think my phone on 360 of fully lean and here is summer so like your winter but wetter here.
Yeah try fuel don't change mix ratio and try with the ok right shut.. just see if that helps. Don't go mad incase it is to lean you will know throttle will start to run away, and hang when you cut it.

If all this fails take 165, you were quick on the 125 so you will be fine.

Been drinking mate??? Lol

U run it fully lean juicy?!! Wow.

Mine did give best economy n cocoa brown plug at half turn from lean but felt guilty. Will try it again n plug chop it

Set the power jet at about 1/4 turn out and then adjust the needle until the bike runs it's best from idle to 3/4 and don't even twist the throttle past 3/4 until you have the needle perfect. Then set the power jet by running 3 second bursts wide open over and over again going richer 1/4 turn at a time until it sputters rich. I prefer 4th or 5th gear and a slight up hill to do this, that way the engine has a good load on it. Once you get it to sputter wide open go back leaner until it just cleans up and is pulling strong on top. Now you're done, it really is that simple. You will notice that when you get the needle just right the idle will also be strong and fairly steady and it will start easier as well.

Roger will try 1/4 from lean(I'm not keen on goin fully lean juicy!) n report back. Bottom end feels good plenty of grunt/torque n starts first kick. Idle is pretty good. Checked idle n it's only 1/4 turn from seated?! 165 was full turn n 1/8 out
Weird that it hasn't played up previously tho isn't it?
I initially was thinkin electrical but the foulin plugs leads me back to fueling.

Well I probably don't crack the throttle post 1/8 so I don't know what the pj does. . Lol
Yeah some reason it runs best with pj fully shut.

N plug looks good after a WOT run?
i jet like lankydoug, i run it richer until fourstroking occurs, then back lean until it goes away...unless you are running racegas you cannot use plugs to jet with. jet for performance..i have always found plug reading a very shady way of doing things.

True, find any richer here gives the bike a horrid surging at sustained high throttle.
if you go richer you get surging? im not sure ive ever run into that, a surge when very lean is normal...you are saying adjusting your rod richer does that?

Yeah on de acceleration like cruising up to a set of lights and letting throttle go, an 70mph on road for any length. Can rev up past it and it's fine for breif moment just don't keep it held open for long.
I may be truly lean as I measured my rod length an it was 51mm, pulls like a freight train and does not throttle hang run 98 Ron at 50:1 with trials pre mix lol

Sorry rode xc on Sunday on 165. Got 5 laps in n got a flat then pinched my spare tube(grrr last bit of bead jus rushed it!) so drank cans n waited for mate to finish! Wasn't happy but worse things have happened. Got another in 2 weeks so try again

Havnt ridden 300 yet but hopefully get out thur to try it. Fresh fuel at same mix, clean plug, adjusted PJ from 5/8 to 3/8(1/4 turn leaner so see how it goes n try leaner if nd be) from seated. Jus gotta take bash plate off n check stator n wd40 the hell outta it. Will report back later in week how she goes.

Had to change both brake pads on 165 after mudder race is it normal to only have one of the clip thingys that sit behind the brake pads in the caliper? The little metal sort of curved ones that must keep bit of pressure on pad to push it forward. Only have one in front brake looks like there's room for 2(1 each piston)
