  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

for my wre 125 2005, I think I need a new front brake lever and also the rubber piece that the lever swings into when you pull it inwards, the rubber bit that compresses, what is it called?? I can find levers aplenty on ebay but don't find anything when searching for front brake rubber!!

The dirt catcher type thing?
The bit that seals out the crud from the action.
or the seal that stops the dirt going into the brake master cylinder? Thats a master cylinder seal

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that part is offered anywhere. The rubber piece that you seek is part of the piston assembly, which is offered up as one complete unit by most Japanese manufacturers, but doesn't seem to appear on a Husqvarna fiche. Maybe contact the supplier of the front brake cylinder unit.

thanks for the link, I'm after the bit where you can see my finger, it seems to want to jump out of the brake lever rather than slotting in180620141922.jpg180620141923.jpg

It sounds like your problem is with the plunger, not the rubber piece. The rubber piece is just a boot to keep dirt out, the lever pushes on the end of a metal plunger that pushes the piston into the cylinder.

It could be that your plunger/boot is worn, and you need a kit like the one shown in the pic above. However, if the "socket" that it sits in on the lever is worn, that might make it pop out too.

I'd probably just replace both and be done with it...

thanks for the advice and links, I was just coming home and suddenly my lever felt ''notchy'' then I realised I had no brake at all! Pulled over and yes the little plunger had popped out of place and was resting above the gap in the brake lever that it was supposed to pop into, so pulling the lever did nothing at all. I put it back together by taking the lever off and on again but can't be having that at 60mph! The rubber boot, plunger and spring appear worn out I think so I will order the kit :D

Should do aslong as the boots your only problem and you dont need the master cylinder piston assembly too, was the lever covered in brake fluid? If so get entire rebuild kit .

realistically if your master needs more than a plunger and boot buy a NEW master
what is your life worth

? Yeh you could do that or you could not waste asmuch throwing away servicable parts, if my brakes arnt working i buy new pads not the entire caliper, why would you buy a new master unless its been smashed beyond repair.

End of the day gazmcfaza its your cash if you feel happy doing the work and acheiving job satisfaction buy a kit, if youve got no time an lota money buy a new bike sorry a new brake and bolt it on.
The choice is yours!

sorted, went to a mechanic I knew at school, he put a new spring on, welded a tiny bit onto the plunger then ground it down in even tinier amounts until it fitted snugly, back together now and works perfectly :D free of charge too!
