  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st What to buy? Another Comparison Question

Hey guys, hopefully you can help me.

I just posted my 2005 TE450 for sale. I'd like to buy something lighter and easier to ride and pick up when I fall.

I've only been riding dirt bikes about 4-5 years. Started on a DR350 for a season and then the TE450. I'm not too aggressive or fast a rider. We ride asphalt to the trails and then fire roads and tight trails in Ocean County, NJ. I can't keep up w/the faster guys I ride with but I'm not too far behind.

I was thinking about a TE310, new or used. But I want to make sure whatever I settle on is lighter than the TE I have now. The dealer in NJ can also make a TXC or WR street legal in NJ.

I saw that Toy Tech in PA has good deals on 2012 leftover TE310's but they aren't too light. I looked up the specs on the 2011's and 2013's and they look lighter than the current TE449's.

So, I'm in this forum to ask is a WR250 or WR300 too much bike for me? I don't look to fly down the trails, just have fun. I like how much they weigh. Not sure about the kicking though.

I've never ridden a two stroke, either. I'm 40 yrs old, about 210 lbs without gear and think about the consequences before trying to conquer an obstacle.

My brother-in-law tells me I'll spend a lot of money maintaining the 2 strokd replacing pistons and cylinders. Is that true?

Any help is appreciated.

Mike

Mike,

Your best bet is to ask Bob if you can test ride some of the bikes he has in stock...He has a small field behind his new shop and he will gladly let you test ride one... When I bought my new WR 150 in June he let me do the same thing... That's what gave me a feel of what the bike was like and that sealed the deal for me buying it....

Two strokes are easier to work on and have a lot less parts, so they aren't more expensive to own. Keep you two stroke jetted right, with a properly oiled, clean air filter and use a good quality synthetic two stroke oil, and you will get lots of life out of the cylinder.

Yes, for casual riding a 250 or 300 piston and cylinder will probably last you several years. Also I've never had ANY major engine failure in my 2 strokes in over 15 years of owning them.

That's pretty much the deal.... I'm using Bel Ray synthetic and I'm hoping that I can keep the top end alive for an extended period...

Thanks for all of your advice. I'm going to try the test riding at Central Jersey Cycles once I have a better idea of selling my existing bike.

Any feelings about a 2 stroke ripping my arms off when the power 'comes on'? I guess the test rides will help answer that question.

Thanks again for the replies, everybody. Now I'm getting fired up to buy something.

Jersey Woods - In so many words, where do you ride?

I usually go in the Whiting area.

When I ride in Ocean County, I ride in the state forest off Mount Misery Road.... Where in Whiting do you guys go ??

besides the smile that is addictive you always have the option of tune it down.

you might also consider a WB165 light in picking it up

enough grunt to pull you out of difficult situations

for sure it doesn't slap you to death after 6 hours riding (250 2 stroke did that with me and I am so happy I did make the change to a 125 platform bike)

enough power to negotiate in the loose sand (although in these situations you always want more ponies doesn't matter what you ride)

Yep....Not far from Country Lakes
I've never been there other than for a dual sport ride.

Do you just drive up the road into the state forest, park and go ride? Is it that easy?

Or, do you have to sign in somewhere, show ID, show bike, etc... I have all of the necessary paperwork.

Thanks,
Mike

A guy that works for me is 275 and he loves my WB165. He didn't want to climb back on his 2011 Kaw 450 last weekend after a 8.5 mile enduro loop on my WB165.

A WB 165 is a bored out and a modified ported 125/144 cylinder

its developed by wally bean on the forum here and it is marketed through motosportz (sponsor of this forum) very active on the forum here.

if you look around on the topics not later than a year there are several ride reports and tuning tips posted.

its a package that works well with a special product pipe from FMF (not direct available from FMF)

if you want to buy the WB 165 direct from the showroom floor contact Bill (also on this forum) bills motor cycles in Salem (sponsor of this forum)
