  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What oil is everyone running?

Amsoil 20-50w in CA, I have used this stuff for a long time in other bikes and love it, fairly inexpensive too. Temps rarely get below 50deg here, generally 65+ while riding.

I'm making my own blend as a cost cutter... 1qt ester (15w-50) + 1 qt synthetic blend (20w-40) ...

I might try some Helix multi-grade in the future or even some straight 40w rotella... I'm here in the Philippines and it is ~70 degrees at sun-up on all days so far so I do not see much of a reason for a multi-grade oil...

Crisco :) J/K

Seriously,
Elf Moto XT 10-50 in the Huskies. I used to run Delvac(which is probably the best oil out there for diesel cars & trucks) in my DRZ(now sold), but had minor clutch slippage at high loads in 5th gear. No big deal and no harm done.

Amsoil 20w50 all year long for 6600+ miles, and change it every 500 miles. I ride anywhere from 25 - 100+ degrees. Cam lobes are just starting to show a very slight wear. Cam chain looks new.

EDIT: One other thing I just found out on SMJ...Amsoil sells direct to the public from their sight. If you pay a $10/6mo (or $20/yr) preferred membership, you get 20-25% off their products. I have been paying almost $15/qrt locally. With the preferred discount from Amsoil, it looks like I can get them for under $9/qrt plus shipping.

Sounds good!

Is anyone doing any oil analysis on their used oil?
