• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What kind of piston do I have?

AA Class
Hello all! I have a 1984 500xc. Compression is a bit low. The bore and piston look great. Ring end gap is out of spec. The Piston is an 87mm. The only stamping on it is D00A2 on the top. I was wondering what manufacturer this is from. Looking down on the top of the ring, the end gaps are U shaped for the locating pin. Thanks for any input!

No traces of black coating. I've had the bike 4 years now, Riding it a handful of times per year. This is the first time I've had the top end off.

post a picture. What's the PSI. If the piston cylinder clearence is okay, you may be able to get away with a new ring.

should be 170-185 psi in my opinion. that can vary depending on gaskets, and squish...maybe even cr/wr. the 84 250wr and 87 430xc i recently did last summer with wossners were right at 180 psi after assembly. my stock 88xc 250 still sits at 215 psi after all these years tho. i tend to replace the piston when psi drops as i have rarely encountered worn ring(s) and a perfect piston/bore. i worry about piston breakage as well in high hours apps too.

Everything looked ok except the ring gap was over spec. The bike would still run but was getting difficult to start. I got a ring before I opened it up but it was the wrong design

The top ring end design is what is in the bike right now. The bottom ring end design is what I purchased and is incorrect for the type of piston that is currently in the bike. I just would like to replace the ring. I have no idea what make the piston is. It is stamped with D00A2 on the top.
