  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

what is this?

Took my new te449 for a ride last nite and noticed this tube hanging. Can someone tell me if this tube should be connected to somewhere. It has a screw on the end of it.

thanks

Well that tube used to connect to the emissions canister. It looks like somebody removed it for you and stuffed a screw in it. Take that thing off and replace with a vacuum nipple or remove the fitting and fill with JB weld or equivalent. You don't want that to become a vacuum leak.

once I add the vacuum nipple should I route the tube downward? I purchased the bike used, is there any other things I should look for that maybe need to be addressed?

The hose in your picture should be removed and the rubber nipple should be placed on the barbed fitting on the cylinder.

If you mean the long tube coming off the rear gas tank filler neck with a black and green check valve, then that should be addressed as well. I routed mine down the right side frame tube and it dumps between the frame and swingarm. A couple of zip ties keeps it neat. I'm at work right now, but would be happy to send you a couple of pics if you need.

huskynoobee where could i purchase that same nipple you have? if its not too much trouble could you post a pic of the other long tube coming from the rear tank.

Here's a picture of my nipple, on my bike that is...

I much prefer a solid plug:

Just go to the auto parts store. They come in a variety pack. Look for them on the aisle that has all the fix it goodies. I have a couple of classic cars so I keep a supply on hand for extra vacuum ports on carbs I don't use. A bolt with some sealant is indeed a more solid solution as the rubber will eventually get dried out and crack.

The larger hose in this pick is the other one I referred to. Pop off the seat and you will see this hose on the right side of the filler neck on the gas tank with the check valve inline. Trace it and see where it goes. It might be routed correctly already.IMAG1083.jpg

sorry for all the questions. i know this is the power up for race map, does the other end clip into somewhere?

That sure looks like it. I wonder why they left it that way?

Double check and trace it back to the gas tank, it is about 2.5' long so its plenty long enough to route out the bottom.

When I first removed my canister I tried to keep it up high by wrapping the tube around the top of the left side of the rear subframe and tucked it in behind the plastic. It took two short rides to determine why I started smelling gas, especially with a full tank. It would dribble gas onto the chain guard and swingarm. Works fine after the reroute.
