• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What is the best fuel pump fix?

Ok gents; give me the clean scoop here. I have a new 2010 TE 450 (325 miles) and my fuel pump took a vacation on my 1st ride. This was a demo bike, so there is no warranty. What is the best route on the repair? Thanks, H.

yep-
but I'd have to say the best fix is when its just one of the 15amp minifuses that went out. then the relay..
a buddy replaced the pump (updated stock one...$600)- without checking either the fuse or the relay...turned out to be the relay. now he's got a spare pump- don't forget to check the little things first.

Checked everything, and then removed the pump asm. The pump is DOA. Is the CA Cycle works pump any good? Do I need a backup?

The CA Cycle Works Fuel Pump has been reported to be a good replacement- haven't seen any reports of those going out. I'd say that's the best replacement option (only one known to slide into the cradle without modification as well). That's what I would buy if needed.

As far as spares go... sure if you want buy a spare. The luck with fuel pumps seems to be quite varied: some guys report early failure and some have never had an issue. I for one am running the stock one that came in my bike when I bought it in March of 2009: which has been through a lot of offroad miles/hours without issue.

Hi Harlow, I would go with the CA Cycle works fuel pump option if you need one. Btw your bike should still have a warranty at those miles. mk

To let you all know, have the CA Cycleworks pump as a backup, and installed the Aprilia assembly, but changed the fuel level sensor using the Husky one. No install issues. H.
