  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

what is and how it works? Red lever over the clutch

Alberto

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi all, Im new to the forum, I just bought a new te250 year 2011, but new from dealer. this is my first bike and I don't know what is the red handle over the clutch and the blue button for..

Can anyone explain in detail what is this and what is used for? Also elaborate about the race map I and II, and what are they and where to use each one.

Thanks!

if it's like the 2010, the red lever is like a fast idle for starts when the bike is cold (not a decompressor). the blue button is the race map switch. if the bike is powered up, it is in full power mode (race map 1 I think). if you hold the blue button for 2-3 seconds while the bike is running, it will go to the other map (map 2), which is supposed to be less power, for muddy conditions). to be honest, i have only pressed the button once or twice, while idling in the garage, have never used it on the trail.

So, when the bike is cold, I have to press that red lever to start it? I've never used it and starts fine.. what is the difference?

Red lever (cold start) sort of like a choke on a carbed bike. As said above map 2 is for slippery conditions ?
My 2011 TE 250 is Powered Up with the TXC ECU, 12 port injector and full Leo pipe. It rips on map 1 in any
conditions, so map 2 never gets used. I guess if you get stuck (to much wheel spin) map 2 may help???

If it starts ok and idles fine without it then no need to use the red lever.
For the blue button to be of any use the bike has to be in "powered up" trim. Do you know if it has been? The difference between the restricted and powered up bikes is like chalk and chesse I understand.

why? not much difference on the bike's performance?
You can feel a difference in the bikes power delivery. It feels softer from the bottom to mid range on map 2. Engine doesnt spin up as fast, but I feel this is unnecessary with the 250, I just dont think it is as brutish as the bigger bikes and the power is quite manageable.

Can you not use it as a hot start also?
I was told to use it to keep idle up a bit when cold and also when hot to allow for easier starting. Works for me now I'm using it when hot, starts right up :)
2011 te310

I use the red lever every time I kick start the bike hot or cold.
If the electric start would work all time I would probably never use the red lever.

I use it every time as well, I find it starts better that way. I use it no matter if I kick it or use the e-start.
