• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What gear do you use?

Mick

I'm interested to see what you guys wear when on the bike, be it dirt or tarmac. Figure it may be useful to have a brief opinion from everyone.

Boots - Sidi Crossfire SRS - I tried these on in comparison to tech 10's, I found the sidi fit the shape of my foot much better, and they generally felt of a better quality.
Lid - Fox V2 - I toss a helmet after anything more than a slight fall, this was very affordable, and adheres to all local safety standards.
Duds - L2R pants - Quite old, they do the job but are getting replaced shortly.
Top - Alpinestars leather road jacket - fantastic jacket on road, not designed for off road, but offers sufficient protection in the cold.
Goggles - Dragon MDX - they're black, have tear off posts and i can see though them. Can't complain.

I'm using the jacket as it's pretty cold here at the moment, in the next few weeks I'm going to purchase a new jersey/pant combo, some gloves (was thinking fox pawtectors) and a Thor impact rig, I'm 6ft1 and 92 kg's, this was the best fitting pressure suit out of the alpinestar, 661 and fox that i tried on. Also offers the benefit of a solid chest piece. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestion on any of this gear? Prior to any rallies or large club races etc, I would like to purchase a pair of Asterisks and a Leatt.

I use a lot of Pro Grip Gear. Not very popular in the US, but big in Europe. A Grade Quality. Just got a new pair of Sidis SRS. 2nd pair in 12 months. Got a second pair because they were so cheap to import form the US. That & the AUD kicking every currency in the world.

Sisi Cross Fires, 6,1,6 armour, Troy Lee lid, Alpinstar trousers, 6,1,6 knee vraces/pads, Scott goggles

It's great buying at the moment Croc! I paid retail for mine from a store, because i wanted to be certain on size. still weren't too dear at $600. What sites do you use for gear? Thinking motocrossgiant.com for my next lot.

Been using BTO at the moment. Paid $495.00 & were delivered to my door in 3 days. They have all sizes to. The model I got was the 2011 SRS which I found that no 1 even stocks them here yet. There is a few improvements over the prior model.

Took a long time to find what I like but here are my current favorites (unless noted)

Kidney Belt - Thor Quadrant (06 or 07 model)
Jersey - Thor Phase
Elbow Guards - EVS
Pants - TLD, Thor Ride or Klim Mohave 2008 (LOVE these pants)
Sox - Thor thick (hate 'em), Fox thick (OK), Thor thin (love 'em)
Knee Guards - Thor Quadrant (06 or 07)
Neck brace - Leatt GPX Club
Boots - Alpinestars Vector
Ride Pack/Drink Sys - Moose

Street (motard)
Helmet - TLD Air
Goggles - Smith (various but usually Intake Sweat-X, nice vents)
Gloves - Joe Rocket Supermoto (older models fit better)
Jacket - Vanson EXO leather
Pants - Syed leather or TLD Explorer textile w/Thor knee guards
Boots - Alpinestars Vector

The 2011 model crossfire srs is currently available in aus, though I did have to order them in.

For road bike I use;
Lid - HJC ac12 carbon, has been very good, but the vents are very lacking
RST gloves - Horrible, HORRIBLE gloves. tore after third ride, replaced, then the new pair tore again.
Draggin jeans - comfortable and look OK
Alpinestars perforated leather jacket (can't remember model) Is great, though i replace the standard armor straight away.
And a very old and worn out pair of Gaerne boots.
I'll be getting another road bike soon for a little track and road use, so some leathers and gear will be on the cards.

I like Bell helmets, particularly the Moto 7, which there are lots of brand new extra small models left on the internet for only 30 bucks a piece! So I own a few in different colors.

Garene is my favorite brand of boot. I have worn the SG10 for a while now, but just replaced them with the Fastback model. Unbeatable protection, value and fit at any price.

For a light boot (one good for dualsport, trail riding or any application where there might be a lot of low speed riding and walking....trials, technical stuff etc.) I like the Gaerne Balance and also have a set of Fox Comp 5s, which are like knee high tennis shoes. Very light and soft.

Pants....just discovered Klim. The most comfortable and best fitting pants I have worn yet.

Gloves: anything on sale that doesn't have awkward seams on the palms.

Goggles: Who wears those? Okay....Spy Alloy.

Adventure suit: Akito Desert

Jersey: Any jersey, tee shirt, Hawaiian print blouse....you name it.

Armor: It's made by Fox, but I haven't seen it in so long that I forgot which model it is.

Belt: MSR and a Kevco Stubbs, but I don't bother with those much anymore either.

Full Klim Tek-Vest is my favorite piece of protection. A-Star Reflex knee and elbow guards. The knee guards wrap around the inside some and keep my knees from getting tank sore. Other stuff varies.
3rd to 6th for me on my TE 510.

I wear a bunch of random stuff, but I really LIKE every Klim piece I've had, and they'll be getting my first and most serious look for anything in the future

For east coast off road:
Arai Helmet- you only have one head, might as well protect it with the best
Smith Goggles- Awesome vision and duribility
One Industries gear- Durable and comfortable
Gloves- one ind. or 661.
Chest- HRP Sports, fits perfectly with leatte neck brace and offers lots of protection
CTi knee brace one leg and 661 moto knee guard the other
Sidi boots- practically a sneaker when compared to any other brand, but with more protection than the other brands.

smith goggles
shoei helmet
msr boots
moose pants
moose gloves
husqvarna jerseys
evs knee supports(i wouldnt call them braces, theese are the all spandex foamy material nothing really solid on them)
im still finding what i like and dont like...the msr boots are kinda big n bulky but they were what i could afford at the time garne or sidi are in the near future....

M2R helmet (lightest helmet I've ever owned)
Scott goggles with amber lense and tearoffs
MSR riding shorts with Monkey Butt Powder
thinking.gif
(
not sure if that's really gear)
Moose XC1 pants and jersey (circa 2005)
MSR gloves
Thor chest protector
Moose socks
Moose indexed knee pads
Gaerne SG10 boots

Boots: Alpinestar Tech 7.
Helmet: HJC ACX2
Goggle: Scott Voltage X OTG, w/Roko quick release straps.
Duds: MSR Jersey(s), pants w/cargo pockets, gloves and padded ride shorts.....and I think even socks. (as pants wear out Klim will likely be next)
Chest Protector: Zac-Speed SP-3......a chunk of money, but love the built in pack w/100oz hydration bag, and comfort (& still have my old Acerbis Zoom)
Jacket (if needed): ARC
With my big calves, I had a heck of a time getting regular knee pads in boots, so got to where I wear hard cap carpenter knee pads outside pants.....protects knee and also protects pants. Like when I was repairing my chain last ride after breaking a master link for the first time ever (other than that rare down time for me, it's typically helping fix the other bikes in the group......non-Husky bikes of course)

bell lid
EVS BJ-22 top, camelbak with h20, snacks, 2" .357m 5-shot, etc...the usual.
whatever pants/gloves stink the least
G-10 dirt slippers
a "depends" diaper if i'm ridin' with kel or rob.
