Careful with those "demo" bikes guys. The shops often have no idea whatsoever what it was used for before they got it. Things just happen.
I almost got stuck with and 2011 that only showed 20 miles on the odo. I got it home, starting digging around and found red clay deep in the nooks and crannys. Uh oh.
Head gasket had been replaced, forks leaked from bottoming out, front rim bent, oil was black as night, screen behind the airfilter had red clay in it (prorobly led to the blown motor) and several very, very critical bolts were just missing. Lower engine, rear suspension linkage, etc.
From the looks of it the bike had been raced hard, blown up, crashed and hastily put back together with a new odo and shipped off to a US dealer as a demo.
New plastics, seat and tires hid a lot on the showroom floor. From the outside it looked perfect. Inside was a whole different story.
Kind of hard to tell new from demo huh?
Needless to say I took the 11 back right away and had a very frank conversation about rider safety with the owner of the bike shop.
He had the bike inspected by a mechanic and confirmed all my findings and apparatly a few more, yikes!
I got a new in the crate 2012 a few days later for $50 to cover the second title transfer.
I really don't think the dealer had anything at all to do with it. The mechanic seemed embarassed a bike in that poor of shape got through his shop and onto the sales floor.
All I'm trying to say is be careful and inspect any "demo" bike closer than a $10,000 bill before you buy it. I was stupid to assume 20 odo miles was actual and shiney plastic meant "new".
