• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What do you think about this new section?

  1. Do you like the general concept of having a tech section like this to discuss things common to all bikes?
  2. If so, what should this section be called?
  3. Think it would be helpful to people to make a list of what should be discussed in here. My question to you is "what should be discussed in here?"

I like "general tech info" section. Breaking up tech info by bike type is a good thing IMO but it does present some challenges for those not super forum savvy (ME) as to where to post what.

As for what it should be called, I'm cool w/common subjects for all Husqvarnas or general technical info. Something basic works well for me.

As for what should be discussed here, that's the big question. Me as a newbie would look to the "generic" or general section for info on things like:
Tires/Wheels
Controls, such as Handle bars, hand guards, grips etc.
Chains
Oil
Seats

All the basics that any bike has. While some of these might be specific to a certain make most of it pertains across the board so to speak.
As w/most things in my life I ascribe to the K.I.S.S. principle and I think the more universal tech info would be best posted here.

Just my thoughts
Hope this helps

I like the general section...but think it should be balanced by sections of bike specific forums for all models. This may just be a normal progression as the site grows and you have more material to work with. We are brand specific, seems logical to have discussion for each model within the brand as separate areas within the site.

I know I was searching for a blinker relay behind the airbox panel (as suggested in a post) when it is behind the headlight on my te450.

Anyway...great job on sorting through all this.

Here is what I have so far...

barkbusters, bike setup, chains, coolant, fuel, graphics, grips, levers, lights, lubes, maintenance, oil, plastics, riding gear, riding tips, saddle bags, seats, tires, tips& tricks, tools, tubes......

My thought is - that list may be too long and they may not read it all so I should take a few out? Leave it as is?

It is a little long but I would leave it as. It lets you know what this section is all about!

I agree

Rumrunner said it well - the section is fine and the way you've suggested content is also fine.

I think the way you are organizing things is neat and orderly. But I agree that it presents a challenge when it comes time to decide where to post or where to search.. If everything was thrown together it would work best for me, because I read most everything anyway.

WoodsChick and I have been working on guidelines that are friendly and easy to follow. It has been a long time coming because we wanted the guidelines to match peoples posting habits to accommodate what people were doing, instead of forcing people 'you must post here' type situation.

I think things will be cleared up soon.
