    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

O.K., I know some folks don't like discussing this, but I'm in the market to swap out my d.s. ride this year since my 24 month "special" financing is up on my WR, and I want a 610, BUT...the cost may be prohibitive. I can buy the bike, but I just don't want $8K in a dual sport. I already have an $8K dirt bike. This is primarily a work commuter, but I want something with some giddy-up this time. I know this is blasphemy on this site, but the DR-650 is looking pretty good for $5,500 out-the-door. So, I need an idea of the kind of price I should be lookin g at paying for a new 610. I know there are rumors of it being something else this year, but if it turns out to just have new graphics and is otherwise the same...I need to hear the stories about how you guys bought a new 610. What am I looking at for real here? 'Cause "sticker" just ain't going to happen.

the DR650 is HORRIBLE on anything remotely looking like off road. If your really going to DS, as in hit some off road i would not buy that bike. IMHO.

+1, the smaller Suz ain't too bad but the 6-5-0 is a big no-go
 
Early this year I paid $6398 for an 08' from cycletown south outside of Dallas, TX. That was basically retail minus the $1000 husky incentive. I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise. There was talk of a few people getting them for 5800 and 5900 but I wasn't able to find such a deal........

Now with the exchange rate and prices up I know I would be jumping on a used one in a heartbeat, couldn't find one at the time tho.....
 
I'm in NC. I want a new one for the financing. I don't want a bank loan for that amount. I can get one unsecured for up to $10K, but the rate will be higher.

As for the DR, is it any better than the XR? I've ridden the XR offroad and I know it is a pig, but it was actually usable for me, not so much for my inexperienced cousin though. I have heard the DR is much lighter. How about the DRZ. I know it would be better off road than the DR, but I have heard that it is real buzzy on the road. I'm thinking those guys on the DR forum on TT have probably never ridden a TE450 on the road, so I don't think it's as bad as they think it is. Anyone here with DR/DRZ experience??? I don't want to put more than $6K in a new one. I know this means I might have to wait until March to get a leftover TE at that price if I don't go with the DR though. Any more price stories? Not sure what your tax rate is in NC, but if you're looking at $6,000 OTD, that would probably be almost impossible out here (CA). If you're looking at $6,000 + tax and license, then I think you have a good chance. Have you called Hall's? They list a 2009 TE610 as being available, and it says to call for "special year end savings". Might be worth looking into.
 
I bought my 08 TE (used... technically) with 126 miles on it, handguards, skid plate and a leo vince pipe for $6400 earlier this year.
 
17% off the list price of 8K ($6699) for a brand new '09... Then $350 (parts & labor) for the skid plate, hand grip guards, removal of cannister and stupid kickstand spring.

I know it's carbureted but I bought my 2006 in May of this year for $4K with less than a thousand miles. New condition. Jet kit, skidplate and it rips.
 
Thanks for the input guys. So it's looking like I'm going to be in the $6,500 if I'm careful about it. I'll wait and see how long that one sits around on my local dealer's floor. If it's there come April, he might be ready to get real. He had an '06 he kept until June of '08, so this one might have a shot at sitting that long as well. If it does-BOOOOYOOOWWWW!!!
 
Are you looking at the dealer in wilmington N.C, that is where i got my 07 610 in april of 08......just as a reference to you I paid 6400 plus tax, title etc......FYI if you are looking at these guys they do nothing in my opinion as dealer checks, setup, etc.....they did not even know how to change speedo from SM to TE, I have heard good things about the dealer in greenville sc if you are not to far from them...............vin

As an aside, before deciding on a DR650, take a look at the tire selection you'll have for the rear. It's a really funky size (120/90-17) and the selection is not great, although Pirelli makes their MT21 in that size. That's the tire I have on the front of my bike. But they're cheap and Suzuki is offering 1.9% financing so with the money you save you could probably lace up an 18" for it. Can't do a whole lot about the 365 pound curb weight, though...

+1 I had one, in fact it was my first "DualSport" MC and I use that term very loosely for the big Zuk. The extra 3k in price for a TE610 will more than equal the money you'll spend on a DR650 trying to make it a good offroad machine. Just my 2cents FWIW:)

Actually yes I was. They are about 30 min. ffrom me. Also, I saw that bike you bought and thought about getting it, but went with the 450. Then, I found out it wasn't worth a dang on the road, so I had to buy a d.s. for that.

As far as the dealerin Greenville, I too have heard good things about them. The guys in Wilmington setup my 450 pretty well though. Only problem I have with these guys is that they sell Husky just so they have dirtbikes to sell. The upside is that they ride Huskys. I have found the owner fairly stiff and unpersonable. However, he does seem to do his best to try to work with you on price as much as is reasonable. They had the best price on the 450 when I bought it. I called EVERY dealer in EVERY state that borders NC (and FL) looking for the 510 and no one had it. These guys had the best price on the 450. Once that guy gets to know you, he seems to loosen up a bit. When he's no too busy, he will actually sit and shoot the bull for a while. They are by far, not my favorite dealer to deal with and I wish they were more Husky-oriented. However, they have been keeping some bikes in stock as of late and seem to be fairly up-beat about it. Husky is still an exotic around here, with only marginally more sales than Aprilia. Most people that see my bike see the very first Husky motorcycle they have ever seen. Some boys I met over on TT all rode Japanese until I went riding with them a little over a year ago. Now they are all riding Huskys, but still we are an extreme minority. Also, the next closest dealer to me is Charleston of which I have not heard anything good.

Again, I wouldn't say these guys are my favorite dealer, but they do o.k. On the other hand, the dealer I get my japanese bikes from definitely is a super dealer and I have bought a few bikes form him. He looks out for me. It's going to be hard to turn down any deal he gives me.

This is a good point and you are exactly right. I hate oddball stuff. It makes it so hard to deal with. I had not thought about this.
