• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Installed that shexy new screw top fuel cap.

Also, prototyped a bracket for my satnav out of thin ally sheet. I'll fabricate a more robust one out of billet over the weekend.
 
"My boy (only 3) was fiddling with the foot pegs yesterday and as a result I spotted that they were loose."

Watch that three-year old! Back in the day when my boy was around that age I'd stick one of my old t-shirts on him and let him "help me out" in the garage. Once when I was changing the plug on my scoot I came over to the bike to find him dropping nuts and washers into the cylinder head:eek:. Couldn't really blame him but it sure made a simple job into a pain!

How were they??

In other news, the spacers I made for the steering damper weren't fat enough, as the steerer nut was fouling the damper itself (wasn't an issue when I tested it without the nut on, as the steerer tube just fitted in to the recess no problem)

So today I've been machining a new spacer out of thicker ally which should do the trick. Dinner stops play but I should have it done tonight
 
I installed a Recluse clutch. It took about 2 hours.
I only used 3 TC balls, where I would prefer 6. 3 more are on order.

ohh.. I didn't know there was a Rekluse to fit the 630. Which part/model number did you get, and how's it working out?
 
The Z-start Pro RMS-856, to suit the 510. Apparently, Rekluse does not approve of this installation.

I like it, but it think it would be better with the extra TC balls, as the clutch is a little slow to take up on fast gear changes.
This should improve as the clutch wears in, and with the heavier balls for a faster grab.
 
Know of any reason for the non-approval?
No issues encountered when installing? Pretty straightforward?
 
Fabricated a little bracket to allow me to mount the RAM sat-nav holder I have.

Reserve my judgment till next ride, Was only noticing them when hanging right over back of the bike.
Have adjusted them to the forward most position. Will see how they go next ride

Took it out on some knarly single track, missed a shift and laid it over on a wicked vertical climb. No worse for wear and happy to have been wearing my gear.....
 
To keep my bike road-legal, I've just installed some neat little LED number plate (licence plate) lights. The original one was part of the number plate mount/indicator mount which was removed when the bike was modified for rallying.

Oh, and the satnav fouls the hand-guards now that the bars are at a slightly different height/position due to the steering damper. Need to tweak all that.
 
Today I unloaded the bike from the truck after Sunday's race ( http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/my-hafren-rally-2013-race-report-very-long.35955/ ) and gave it a wash.

The damage appears to be...

Lost right foot-peg and hanger : both bolts into the frame have fractured, leaving stubs in the frame. There's a nice Ti footpeg out in the Welsh forests somewhere if anyone wants one.
Broken carbon fibre exhaust protector (not a big deal, I've got some 1.5mm CF sheet lying about that I can cut another one out of.
Bent left rad : I'll use the rads off the spare bike for now, but I'll be looking for a replacement. I've been reading those threads about the chinese GPI rads for the 250. Is that still a viable and workable alternative?
Broken Cycra hand-guard : It's snapped the bolt off inside the handlebars, leaving a stub about 2" inside the bars so I can't reach it, but it's still causing the expanding retaining whatsit to bind into the bars. I might just use the bars off the spare bike until I can extricate it.

left hand footpeg was loose too, so I'll be looking into additional methods of securing the footpeg hangers to ensure they don't get lost in future.

I just told my bikes that they haven't been forgotten, and that I will tend to them and take them all for rides as soon as I am able.
