  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

What bike to take to Moab Utah and other question

Me and about 8 other guys are going down to Moab from Canada, renting a place for a week and wonder what should I take for a bike. 2008 Cr144 or 2010 tc 250 both bikes are in great shape mostly stock setup for mx and should be dependable. Also any trails we should take for newbie trail rider, were I live it flat that is why we ride 90% mx. We are all experenced riders in mx fast c- b-a riders. What would the weather be like around Feb 19 since that is when we are going. I know alot of guys will want to do harder stuff but tough single track would be total new to me. Is there any things I should do to bike to get ready like put trail tire running mx tires now Pirelli mx mid soft and Dunlop MX51 rear tires. Thanks for any help.

Moab ROCKS!
start off with chicken corners. Awesome scenery easy ride to warm up.
Next fins n things good fun ride close to town.
DO NOT GO FOR CHINESE FOOD IN MOAB. THEY ARE THEIVES. they tried to double charge me and the food was so bad I couldn't eat it.
really I went to Mcdonalds to get something to eat after leaving there.
When you get comfortable go for poison spider.
if you are street legal white rim trail super cool 100mile loop easy ride just gotta be street legal.
Been there four years in a row with my wife. so many trails, Just so many trails.
Gemini bridges another easy ride go to the top then ride around to the bottom.
BE CAREFULL don't go squirrelling over a hill if you don't know what is on the other side. 800ft drop offs can be the norm in a lot of places.

Oh forgot to mention there nis a book on Moab trails good reference.
Once you go you will go back.
 
February could be sketchy on weather depending on what kind of winter we have. With how it is going now I would say should be good in Feb. Trails to get your feet wet on would be Slickrock Trail, Hells Revenge & Fins & things. Once you feel comfortable on that then Poison Spider, Kane Creek & Seven Mile Rim would be good. For single track, the Sovereign Trail system is good. Pritchett Canyon would be one to avoid if you are not comfortable with big step ups. A real fun place to ride that is 20 miles south of Moab is the Cameo Cliffs/Hook and Ladder area. Also not too far away is the White Wash/10 Mile Wash area.

A Pirelli MT-43 Trials tire is a very good tire for Moab.

Thanks for all the help so far and will let everybody know when we get closer to date we are leaving if anybody wants to come ride with us. The more riders the better. I am leaning towards taking tc250 but I do have a drz400s that is street legal but it is to big a bike to have fun on compared to tc unless there is alot of high speed riding which the tc would not like.
 
OK I have to figure how to post a photo.
I would gear down and take extra jets, is the TC carbed?
 
I already have 2 teeth more on rear sprocket and tc is only a five speed,it might top out at 60-65 mph the way it feels on track. Yes it is carbed its a 2010 tc 250. I am not sure what jets are in it but we live at 1900 feet above sea level and it is jetted great no bog anyware but will get some extra jets one pilot and main up and down should be ok right. I have a leo Vince pipe with spark arrester which I understand are needed to ride in park. Thanks again for help
 
TC YES! DRZ NO! We usually get along fine connecting trails on the road non-plated. Just don't be an idiot and local law enforcement will leave you alone.
 
the pic I was going to post shows us parked next to a sign that says 12,000ft.
so there is potential for some serious elevation gain
 
No rekluse is it important to have one. My bike has been starting ok but that is running mx so not alot of stalling while going slow and running hot which might make it alot harder to start. What is the elevation above sea level mostly around Moab. And I have no rad guards or any extra protection on bike other than stock skid plate. Are spark arrester really important in Moab.
 
we went 2 years ago- I went with guys that I could just follow- so its hard to say where we went and describe it- It was awesome and I just had a great time- the list of trails Enmerdeur mentioned all sounds familiar. We all had plated bikes/ left the cabin on the bike in the morning came back that night- ate snacks on the trail (all long days). I think we went in april- after the Jeep jambori. For what we did I'd say use the bike you are most comfortable with in technical terrain. Not alot of opportunities for high speed. Accept riding to the trail heads. I used my 'woods bike' at the time (02KTM351htracingbb-4t)- it was great for everything but that bike and me never got along in sugar sand- we found just enough to frustrate me. Right now I only have the 09TE450 and would be pretty confident on that-but if you have a smaller 2st or 4st your comfortable with that would be a good match.
