  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What a difference a tooth makes!

This 1 tooth thing goes both ways as I replaced my 13t with a 14t for a street ride today ...and it was nice :) ... If you could ride on a trail with a 14t ... you'd be fast! ... Makes that 6speed feel like a 5speed ... Now I need to get a 15t and another K270 5.10 Kenda for the rear & some real road traveling ;)

I rode trails for the first time yesterday with my txc300 and 14-50 gearing that I forgot to change after my last MX ride. I really liked it, I have used 13-50 13-52 and now 14-50. It really made the gears more usable for me.

Here is a video from yesterday, wish it would have been cloudy the video would have been much better.

Later,

I've road with a 14t \ 50 in the woods also ... Its spaces out the feel of the gears ... Its no longer a closely spaced CR tranny ... More of a 5-speed feel between the gears ... Less shifting to keep the speed up and unless it was really technical, 1st was still low enough in most places ...

Nice video and that trail looks gnarly perfect to me ... Sounds like you 4-stroking it very well! Is most of that riding in 2nd gear? I don't hear alot of shifting ...

Jake, at the 2:42-2:44 section of the vid, you are going fast from a straight away and starting to apply the brakes hard for the next corner ... Do you hear a clattering noise coming from your bike in the rear? My bike makes a noise when I break really hard and I think I can hear your bike making the same sound on the video ... Is this the chain slapping?

Did you get a new 300? What happened to the TXC250?

I am not 100% sure what gears I was in, 1-2 or 2-3?

I believe you are hearing the chain slap as the rear tire chatters into the corner.

I put the 300 kit on my TXC back in December.

Later,

I'm back to the 14/50 for tomorrows ride ... The Sat ride is faster and not so technical as the Sun ride and we usually hit one small track at the end of the day so I can get in 2 tests in one day with one tooth+ ...

Later,

I recognize those ruts.. that the Boundary trail? heading up towards Table Mountain??

p.s. I agree about the gearing.. I was running 13/52 on my 300, first gear was all but useless and sometimes I couldn't tell which gear I was in as they were all so close together.. went back to a 14 and it just seems to spread the gearing out to a more usable range
