• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Western Hare Scramble, Gorman, CA

What's the transponder deal and tech inspection routine. Should I bring helmet to registration and rent a transponder, etc... Somebody's website needs a step by step, new rider with no friends who do this, easy 1,2,3 sheet. Or Racing Hare and Hounds 101 for Dummies instructional.

Already 5+ C Super Seniors... WTF a real geriatric pileup in turn one!

PM huskynoobee for more info.

Like he said talk to Huskynoobee He came to a desert Race and now he is hooked Its easy just show up and have fun Remember the view and the stories after the race are better that anything you get at home or in the stands Gorman is fun and fast

Bring your helmet to sign up. It's $5 for a transponder good for all events that sticks to inside of your visor. If you don't have a number they will give you one. Only need the front number plate. They will also have you fill out a tech form. To be honest the tech inspection is new to me. I've only had sound tests. I imagine you get your bike checked and they either check your card or you return it to sign up. This is my first Hare Scramble so it's new to me too. We can learn together

Cool. My last race was in 84 at Loudon. Tech was roll bike to pit with helmet An they'd put a sticker on the front number plate and back of helmet. Dirt is much simpler without the safety wiring requirements.

You going to be there?
Got to go by my old old work place tomorrow to see if one of my long time buddies (a Prospector) will be there..

Evidence.... I was there. Raced Sportsman and even staging last, some punk idiot came flying into a pack of us stopped waiting for the first hill carnage to clear. Like road racing I do think waving yellow flags could be handy for these situations with stopped riders and a blocked course. In any case arrived at 5:40 and cool to run into a SB local Manny and a guy from SLO, so put me at ease. My race went well. 3 laps for about 30+ miles. Sandy for the most part and I was told worst conditions but I didn't really have any issues with it. Augured the front end a couple of time in slow corners but kept the clutch in and was off quickly. The Husky ran super and even managed a few jumps around the MX track. Never rode here before or on a MX track so a very successful first event for me.

I think I saw Jeremy/Huskynoobie staged just in front and then when he went blasting by me in the wash. Not sure if he got hung up in that first hill carnage where all had to turn around as course was re-routed after that.

I did, got stopped trying not to run some poor guys head over at the top, got the bike up, only to have some guy on a KTM loop out just past me and slammed into me and a Prospector. Broke my hand guard, side plastic and radiator plastic and half dislocated my left shoulder. The guy from the club got his leg ripped open by my super duty ZipTy plate frame.

I thought that was you in the wash. I was a little possessed to make up spots by then. I also had to stop and pull what was left of my hand guard off in the pits since it was just dangling at the beginning of the second lap. I got third in my class so not bad I guess. I just missed the fourth lap by a few minutes.

It was a lot of fun other than the spode moments. Going to crack a beer now that everything is unloaded and watch some gopro viddy.

Glad you made it! See you at another race soon.

By the way, a big Thank You to Tinken and his fellow Prospectors for putting on a great race! That was really fun and having some jumps to hit on the track was more fun than I thought it would be. Been a long time since I've hit a jump like those.

For those of you who think racing is not for you, one of these races or a GP which is short course (compared to a cross country race like a Hare n Hound) and doesn't require crazy skills or endurance is a great way to get your feet wet, or dip a toe back in after a hiatus.

Like Ajax sez. This racing thing is a disease. The feeling of being out there with a bunch of other people like us, the energy, the nervous excitement...it just erases the years. I feel like a teenager every time.

+1 To all that

Good to see more guys supporting the sport by paying AMA and entry fees. It helps keep the sport alive.
I was watching the first race my son and some club members were in that race, watching the hill was kind of ugly.
I didn't look for anyone from this page, It's tuff being a dad that races. I'm in race mode but still need to help my boy stage Ect. from the pic of Jhonrg looks like we parked close to each other I had the Snap-on tools EZ-up.

I was over by the timing tower. I watched my GoPro video yesterday. Man I'm gonna have to get it set up on YouTube...brutal. Lets put it this way. There will be a disclaimer for those afraid of the sight of a Husky being attacked by a KTM and blood.

That's part of the every weekend Gorman mx track, that thing gets lap after lap of normal all skill level mx traffic all day long.
The West chec enduro 2 day qualifier and a 1 day enduro we did both started and finished at that mx track area for special tests in and out. I was thinking they ran the course up some gnarley new hill. How the heck did that thing become a carnage fest? Must have been 1 guy that triggered the avalanche, that hill really is a non- issue usually (was there a beginner class mixed in with the pro/open race?) ???
