  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Well, I blew it

Sorry guys but I work - putting break in time on it - up to 60-70% throttle/revs - first oil change the oil looked almost like new. Nothing on the magnetic drain plug. Can tell you that the clutch mod has eliminated all Rekluse squealing. Getting into the meat of the power now and it seems to feel 'smoother' - she really wants to run so maybe by Sunday afternoon. The new drain back system is actually easier to use than the factory drain bolt crud.
Yeah the rekluse sure is loud. I'll have to look into that clutch mod

OK - getting to 90% - not thrashing yet but here are some impressions - IMPRESSIONS - I choose that word carefully because it's been a while - not exactly back to back testing.

As I said - the clutch mod has eliminated all chatter/squeal.
The motor - I installed the quiet inset in the Akra and it still seems to make a coupe more ponies than before (even without the recommended aftermarket tuner). It seems to be a little smoother down low (maybe the exhaust insert) but the real IMPRESSION is that the motor somehow seems to have less friction - it seems to rev more freely and REALLY WANTS to run. It feels like a true 350 off road racer.

Almost 10 hours on the rebuild and it's amazing how well the 'little' bike runs. One thing I've noticed is how much more corner speed I carry into turns, how the bike is willing to change directions at apex, and able to get on the throttle much earlier than other bikes on exit. When riding it MY straight-aways are longer than everyone else's - and the new motor is even more willing than before.

Aaannnddd …. while she was on the bench I found a new love - a wicked b++ch of a big bore 2 stoke which is the Husky's complete opposite - it always seems like it's trying to hurt you rather than help you - aaannnddd now the little Husky is for sale for what I still owe the bank of BMW. (see the classifieds)
