  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc WB165, what powerband would you like sir?

Tested an older style and kinda odd shaped Doma on my 165 with a YZ muffler. the older KTMs had odd pipes that were medium fat and neck down real quick with a long stinger. The newer ones are fatter but a far more gradual ending cone. I really like my newer style Doma pipe and its massive mid range. Then put on the FMF SST and long silencer and found it had less bottom and mid but a lot more top. I grew to like ti to after adjusting to it. Now i am trying the older style Doma and liking it too. Kinda fun playing with different powerbands.

So this pipe make it hit quicker and harder and the bike seems to rev faster. More bottom than the FMF SST by a noticeable amount and has a hit in the mid range and then signs off kinda early. I think i can extent the top end some with some carb adjustments and went a half turn leaner on the Lectron powerjet and it seemed to like that but as I tested in in tight woods I need to get out somewhere to play more with the top end. So this pipe works nice, feels racy and livly and eager to rev up to a point where it signs off.

Newer style Doma KTM 200 pipe which is very fat and gradual ending cone...

The one I am running now which is an older style KTM200 pipe with medium diameter and short ending cone and long stinger...

also note this one wraps around where the top one just comes out and goes back like a 125 pipe. So short and fat verses long and skinny.

What pipe would you recommend for someone looking for a linear power delivery like a 150? Deep low end is not a concern for me, I ride mostly from 5000-10000 RPMs for MX (not racing) and Trails. I don't want a pipe that falls flat on its face on top, but I do want a noticable increase in the mid-range compared to a 150. Basically I love delivery of power of a 150 (my only experience is a 150 with stock 125 pipe), except I want more power everywhere.

Even the stock 125 pipe will give you that sort of power on the 165, But it wont release the full amount of power available that the 165 delivers.
Best pipe I have tried/tested for the same sort of mid to top 125/144 type of power goes to the ktm 200sx DEP, HGS from the same bike isnt far behind but seemed a bit fragile (yes I mashed one)
I think the pro curcuit 200 pipe would also fit the bill.
You still will not get the same amount of rpms the 125/144 spins at but its not far off so a gearing change would be advisable to make the most of the setup, I settled on 14/51 and mine pulls my old fat ass around with ease.

310, 165, 125, 200, 1500 doesn't really matter unless you take out the factory power band and put in the Purple Power band by Goons MX/XC. Factory power bands are junk I don't even know why they put them in there. But ,aw the power of Purple power band is just out of this world. Yep PPB all the way.
