  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Virgin 511, if you could do it all again.

Nick Noodles

B Class
I finally upgraded from my trusty steed of a DRZ to a new TE511 loving the bike so far and have put 450km on her.
I've been reading all the threads about zipty's oil recirculation kit and other mods and want to know what would you guys do if you had to start over again.

So tell me what mods would you do if you had a virgin TE511 sitting in your shed.
To start with I'm going to start running Mobil1 0w40.

Cheers
Nick

Nice! I'm assuming coming from the Dr. Zed you aren't gonna race the TE. This is what I'd do myself.

I would run it in on the original mineral oil before adding the synthetic, to let it bed in.

Have a look through the threads, there are some good mods.

Change the horrid original Michelin tyres....no grip in the bush & tread chips off. I get a great run out of Pirellis.

I love the Sunline levers on my TE449, I run the standard plastic rock deflectors instead of heavy Barkbusters & the unbreakable Sunlines.

They don't have a listing in the catalogue for the TEs as such, a good bike shop should be able to work out which KTMs had the same Brembo master cylinders.

From my (old) memory, KTM250/300 2st clutch (most others run magura) & 450 4st brake.....

Force have a good range of protection accessories for them /www.forceaccessories.com.au I have one of their bash-plates.

If you can locate one, the Gen Husky accessory plastic muffler protector p/no. 8000H7844 will help reduce the scratches on the Akro muffler.

Once it is run in, if you are having any stalling/idle issues & you may, see if your local dealer can flash the race pipe map into the ECU for you.

Most of all, enjoy a great bike, I still love my 2011! :)

Cheers for the reply DangerMouse I mainly rude sand tracks and dunes but I plan on doing the odd enduro later on.
I've already done 2 oil changes one at 120km(4hours) and one today at 450km using mobil1 0w40.
Just put 50km on her on the new oil this arvo runs a dream on this stuff.

Agree with you about the stock tyres they are horrid I'll either use AC10's or s12's.

I'll have a look at the sunline levers and will definitely try to find the the exhaust guard.

I'm running race map2 at the moment and having no stalling or idle issues is the race pipe map your talking about what I'm already running it is it something different.

Man they are great bikes.

I like those 2014 Side covers.... not as boring as the 2012 and 13 model covers...

-I have installed a Rear brake disc guard from Enduro Engineering protects your Disc from rocks and Impacts..
-Ricochet Skid plate.. Covers more side area and it is longer on the backside. It also bolts on with 6 Brackets instead of the 3 Stock mounting points.
-7602 RACING Radiator Guards with Front Covers. YOu find them here on CH. Stronger then Force Guards. I did have Force for this model, but ditched them after 2 rides.
-Front disc cover from Husqvarna.
-Flex HAndlebar from Fasst Co.
-Midwest MOuntain Engineering Clutch Lever.
-Zip Ty breather , but not the Complete kit. I have routed the hose straight to the Airbox. And it woks Ok even with 1200ml of oil.
-Akropovic ECU Set up or some people call it map3. Once it is done, you will still have Map2 coming up in the Display. As far as i know from a friend in Trooper's area, he installes map 3 right away anyways with the Australian Standard Akro Muffler.
-Oxy Sensor removed and Plug Installed.
-But if you want a bit more Grunt in lower rpm, a FMF Powercore 4 from www.rockymnountainatv.com will help heaps. Only $269.
-Header pipe Guard from R&D Husky.
-Mousse Tubes in front and rear from Goldentyre. Front tire Mousse has got 1600km on it an the rear approx. 1200km.

I also changed my Sprocket's ..
My riding is 80% tide single Tracks and Technical .
13 tooth on the front and 49 on the back.

Went back to 14 front and 48 back for some long Distance rides and didn't like that at all once i went back to the tide stuff.

Suspension SET UP should be done... Front is to SOFT...

And be aware when you have long steep uphill rides, your bike will leak out of the Tank breather. But this only happens on extreme long ones . Victoria High Country. A few drops, you can smell it but nothing to worry about.

If you like the open Handguards and don't want to go with BArkbuster ones , i use the white Husaberg/KTM ones. These things just hold up almost everything..

HAVE FUN with it. You gonna love the Hill Climbs with it !!!

My suspension is spot on at the moment, I've got a smaller front sprocket coming going to try that for a while.
So far I'm looking at rad guards, disc guards and bash plate.
I'm running 1100mm of 0w40 at the moment with out any overflow but I will be doing the breather kit cheers for the pics showed me how easy it is.
I had wrap around bark busters on the DRZ I think I'll end up putting a set on the Husky less chance of the throttle been held on when she's dropped in the sand.
Do the flex bars take some of the felt vibrations out?, I haven't a real problem with the vibrations yet but I've only been doing 50km circuits so far.

takes a lot of the Vibration out ... and your wrist's will love them ....

good place as i said.. www.rockymountainatv.com

when you look at rock m atv, go through several te 449 modelyears. sometimes they dont show parts under your model year but under 2011 or 2012 model's.

and the 7602 racing stuff.

I run my one with the standard gearing, we ride hills that are too steep on over-run downhill, but also some open tracks that are too fast for the standard top gear (the close ration box is a bit too close!) Hard to win :) It will depend on the local terrain.

9880sts, might be a problem with the fuel venting?? We ride hills you have trouble standing on, the 449 never looses any fuel??? Strange eh.
(The rear filler is a pain in the arse when you are trying to fill it right to the top & not spill any though****************************************)

The front IS soft, I run an extra 20ml of oil in the front legs, helps late in the stroke on the big hits. With me at 85kg plus gear, i'm too heavy for the standard set-up.
I'll be buying stiffer springs shortly.

I like my Force bash-plate, it mounts with one allen-headed bolt up the front (Hidden bracket at the rear). Easy at oil change time.

I asked the Dealer to set the suspension for my weight 91kg with gear feels pretty good but I might tinker with the rear a little ride it and tinker again untill it's sweat.

Been reading some of Tinkens posts got a lot of good ideas from them.
Now I've just got to get approval from the minister of finance to start spending on the 511.
