• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Does anyone know anything about this as we would be interested in running a team.

Is it on?
When?
What is the spec for years and is it twin-shock?
Is there a night element to the race?
How many racer per team?

Thanks guys!

Andy.

There are 2 1000 mile off road races in Baja each year; the NORRA Mexican 1000 run in the spring of each year. That race was originally for race vehicles 20 years old or older but is now open to race vehicles of any year. The race runs rally style and is a 3 to 4 day affair. the only night running is if you have problems on a stage and come in late.

The other race is the SCORE Baja 1000 run the 3rd week of November and it is a straight thru race starting at daybreak and ending when you are finished, so night running will be involved. There is normally a 30 to 35 hour time limit but the overall winners will cover the course in the 17 to 18 hour range. There are no vintage motorcycle classes per se but the previous owner of SCORE would create a class for you if you could come up with 5 similar race entries. Perhaps the new owners who bought SCORE 3 years ago would be willing to do the same. As to number of riders per team 7 or 8 is the limit, but most bike teams go with 3 to 5. And then there is the Ironman class but that is a whole other story...

2017 is the 50th anniversary of the Baja 1000... I've heard talk of a special vintage turnout but no concrete details yet.

Thanks. Are there classes in the NORRA race for the old stuff and what are the cut off dates? What fuel range do you need?

This sounds interesting!

I believe the NORRA race still offers classes for the older bikes, but I don't know what the year cutoffs are. You should get on the NORRA Mexican 1000 website and that will spell it all out for you. As to fuel range I can only speak to the SCORE Baja 1000 requirements as I never competed in the NORRA event. Our SCORE race bikes treated 50 miles range as an absolute minimum, and of course more is better. In Baja you can pit wherever you want to as there are no specific pit areas. Our team would usually have 2 chase trucks we used to pit our bike at road crossings, access roads etc. The SCORE race course is marked and open to pre-running about 3 weeks before race day so we would figure out our pit plan during that time. I don't think NORRA allows pre-running but hopefully they would give you a course map, GPS coordinates or something of that sort so you could figure out a race plan.

Should answer most of your questions.
Going back I've raced in 37 Baja 1000's, so when I say it's fun I mean it.
Have raced the norra mexican 1000 a few times and will have to quote its "The Funnest race on the Planet"
Race the special tests, ride the transfer sections, drink Tequila,
You get to do it again for 4 days.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT ????

I like it too. As for the springs, looks like a great idea, will deflect rocks and other debris from damaging the shafts and hence seals that would would normally pass through the larger gaps at the other end of the spring.

Front fender is painted black so headlight doesn't reflect back into rider's eyes when fender is bouncing around ?
