  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ive noticed Very few 11/12 Xlite threads! [apart from starting issues!]
That's a good thing? isn't it?

Got 130 hours on my 012 te 310.
I'm a bit worried about future parts and servicing. I currently own 3 huskies and have owned 7 total!
im sad and aware that 'husqvarna' is no more.
only yellow and blue KTMS!

My '11TE310 runs like a top. I'm very happy with it.

I wouldn't worry about parts and service. KTM folks have said they're committed to that for quite a few years.

My '11 TE310 was the best off-road bike I have ridden for handling and power/weight.
Sadly, it had issues: wouldn't start, wouldn't run.
Local dealer could not sort it so I traded for the 511.
511 is a great bike but I would love to have another TE310 - if they have resolved the starter & FI issues.
Seems like they have (?)

My 2011 TE310 blackhead(mod to 12 TXC spec) has been bullet proof.
My 13 TXC red head story is different and can be found on another thread. I'm ok with it, its a machine and things happen when you ride them hard in ugly conditions. X-lites are the last of the hard core comp 4t huskys from varese.

My take is that the 250/310 do what people expect them to do; the 449/511 discussions are as much about making them fit peoples expectations as actually resolving issues. Nobody wonders if a 310 might make a good freeway cruiser ;) and nobody questions that it can be raced.

stupid question but why are these x-lite? are they kilos lighter or is it a cunning marketing ploy?

They are probably 5-10lbs lighter overall - tough to really feel a difference imo. 235lbs instead of 240-245lbs?

I think it's more how the suspension holds the weight more then anything (high or low).

I believe the weight difference is around 4.5 kilos or 10 lbs just for the motor. Not sure if that figure is dry or wet, since they also hold significantly less oil.

When things just "work" they are not widely discussed.

Try to find any info on here about the x lite Keihin fuel injection... There ain't nuthin.
Dynojet haven't even developed a power commander for this system yet.

We applied 'open pipe' map to our TXC310R when we upgraded the exhaust....the word Keihin was never used, but IMHO the bikes still need map work to run their best. And the 12 hole injector upgrade for 11-12 models is also discussed at length. Where the xlites dont get discussed is the 'it flamed out/stalled in' the middle of a hilllclimb/mudpuddle/stream crossing/intersection....in otherwords, it may not be optimized, but it doesnt do something scary which was a problem with at least some 449/511.

I will say that I think the bigger bike is a more robust platform and I expect to do much less engine maintenance on those than on my 310R. Keeping the valves just right so the 310 will start is as annoying as the flame out issue in my book.

I think my biggest issue with my 2010 XLITE motor besides the small oil capacity (TE250- first year of the xlites) is that after getting a JD Tuner, opening exhaust, and airbox lid, plugging sensor - the bike's power delivery still feels a little 'off' - blips during fast acceleration down low and still feels limited power for a 250 (power seems to drop off at 8,000 rpms - and yes, it's powered up - no limiter).

I now need to get the 12 port injector and ECU reflashed for better power and delivery. That kinda sucks because I don't live near a Husqvarna dealership and I'm not the most experienced mechanic - so it's been a little rough for me.

I have yet to ride a TXC and would really like to test one out. I'm not sure if the 2010 models had a mikuni FI or the Kehin... that could explain a bit too.

I'd love to see a TXC 310R with Baja Designs kit as option for those who don't live in the more strict states

edit --> didn't see the '11/'12 part in topic, but 2010 is xlite motor too

Truth be told I'd have been better off with the '09 engine than the x-lite for the type of riding I do, but it is what it is and I still have fun riding it, although the abrupt throttle response gets annoying at times, and thats with a throttle tamer.

ok thank you, so as i see it, the motors are a blueprinted version of their massproduced counterparts, chamferd grars thinner bearings tighter tolerances in the cases. then re valved suspension. any revisions to chassis or are these std throughtout.. ive not really heard of these before.

Thank you for instant responce

I've had the Sussy done professionally and the 12 port fitted.
138 hours of track time! Enduro track time usually = low rev technical riding!
I'm just loving this bike. I ride a lot of different tracks so have a 510 and wr250 but tbh the 310 does it all mx included and will prob sell the other bikes.
At the moment I'm going to ride until something goes wrong with the engine and then get a full rebuild.
I would of been mad to pay for a new piston at 60 hours as per manual.
What's everybody else doing? When? Big end ? Con rod ! New valves.
Is wait until it goes wrong such a bad idea?

Not at all, the x-lite is a brand new design introduced about 2010? Significantly lighter than the previous generation. 20lbs lighter as I recall. It is not a marketing thing, they really are much lighter than the earlier generation which I have. Initially with Mikuni efi, the Keihin efi I believe.

Yep, but that doesn't mean the 449/511 is heavy. Change to a lithium battery and swap the stock muffler for an FMF, and it comes out lighter than a stock Xlite. Sorry to go of topic, couldn't resist. Now back to the show.

You weighed both bike or just going by specs from husky?

According to the Husqvarna factory race team, AKA ZipTy racing. This is absolutely true.

My reason for posting was due to others throwing my beloved machine under the bus.
