As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
i dont know.I am re-building the top end of my 09 wr 300. It had a Vertex piston in it stock. Have heard some good things about the Wossner pistons. Curious what others recommend??
Thanks for taking the time to tell me you don't know. that is helpful.i dont know.
That is tempting but I already have the cylinder at Hall's and they are going to fit it for a new piston. I was just looking for input on which brand? If I blow the top end again I might hit you up for it.

Any suggestions for break-in on a new top end??Either of those brands will work nicely and have good life. Keep you bike serviced and you should enjoy a bunch more riding from your choice.
Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.Mix the first tank a bit more oil and let it idle a bit before you really start to ride it
check for cooland leaks and/or extreme white smoke (could be a water leak in the head gasket)
when warm run it easy around the block after that load it up a bit more and after an half hour of running time its good to go

Thanks for the advice. Can't wait to get her up and runnin again. I opted for the Vertex simply because Hall's had the cylinder and had a vertex in stock and I do not want to wait any longer. Seems feelings are mixed on the piston. Should be fine with either I hope.lug the engine dont revv it out and use it for 3 or 4 rides in the booowrraa not bwaaaaaaa sound, this beds the rings into the cylinder walls.
or is what was told to me by me dad have done this to all my bikes and not redone a top end on the same bike in an age!
+1 wossner beautiful machining on them
ohh and let it warm up for a few mins every ride too. gets the exhaust scavenging better so it rides clean from the off.
wiseco i think.
