  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Valves continue to loosen up

Checking my valves again at about the 300 hrs mark and the clearance continues to get wider instead of getting tighter ... What gives here?

Mine loosened up at 1500 or so and I think also around 1000 miles. I even had to get bigger sizes than come with the motorsportz hot cams kit. I am now at 2700 and they haven't moved since. I spoke to a dealer and there explanation was that things are breaking in a bit, but keep an eye on it.

OK and thanks .... I found a guy here who has a entire kit of Honda shims and I should be able to get some bigger shims from him that I need t take up the space ...

What carbon build will cause the valves to get looser..

Carbon explanation would be build up on the valves and seats where they meet- so they would therefore not close as far. Another explanation is that your cam and follower are wearing more than your valve and seats.

Mine got tighter for about 1500-2000 miles now i have 2700 on the bike and they havent moved at all since 2000.

This was just one intake value ... So maybe it is a non - issue ... the other 3 are sitting as expected ....

its a good indication that its only 1 being loose- . seems more random.

At 300 hours things would seem in pretty good shape- how many times have you adjusted your valves?

rocker arm / follower

Probably 4-5 times ... 3 of the 4 valves usually stay the same or tightly very little but with this one that has never tighten up and seems to grow loose .. I got a 0.040 shim today and shimmed it is back to the outer side of the MAX clearance ...
