• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Uptite exhaust for SM610

If you didn't find anything on this site, here's a post on Thumper Talk.

Random thought here, but the Uptite can always reminds me of the Genco Olive oil company can. I think of that scene where Vito visits Corleone in Sicily to "take care" of Don Francesco in Part II of The Godfather.

Have one on my bike 08 SM610 and its very nice. It is not a loud pipe until you give it a hard whipping and then she barks like a big dog but not so loud as to piss people off. Still under the required db for CA. By the way, my can looks different from that 07.

I love my Up-Tite muffler. It fits great looks great and preforms great. My 610 runs like a beast after the slip on and the jumper for the O2 sensor. Like mentioned before, it isn't to obnoxious if you treat it nice, but when you give it some throttle, or put the bike under load, she has a serious bark. Here's the links to 2 videos I put up on you tube. You all can hear for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM5lE4MvIBE

You will love it, call George now, don't delay. LOL

Anyone know if Uptite's pipes have spark arresters with the USFS-approved stamp on the outside?

I need a pipe for my SM610, but it needs to have a spark arrester as I spend a ton of time in national forests and on BLM land.

Largestache - Maybe it's the poor sound on my computer, but that can seems to be a bit quieter than my stocker. What do you think in person?

At normal driving/cruising rpm it is quieter than the stock pipe (or at least it has a mellower more pleaseing sound). It only barks when you're hard on throttle.

Don't know. I'll check on that if I go by his shop today...or 1 714 540-2920 if you want to call him.

Woodschick.. It does come with a spark arrestor, mine wasn't stamped but George did give me a couple USFS stickers that go on the can. I put one on back in Baja and its still on there. The pipe does have alot more bark if you remove the S.A. Too much for me, I didn't leave it out for long.

Maybe it has a spark arrestor, but not an "approved" one. :excuseme:

Is a spark arrestor required on the dirt roads in national forests, or just the singletrack trails?

Any where in a NF.
And it has to be approved, be it the stock muffler with the the SAE J350 spec or a aftermarket with the USFS approval number on their list.

The SAE J350 is what covers cars and trucks also.

I think it is untill you whip it. :D

I'm new to Husky, so pardon my stupid question, but does the stock exhaust on my 610 meet the USFS requirement? Other bikes I've owned have always come with a USFS spark arrestor from the factory.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the input. I talked with George and ordered the "SM610 power-up kit" - canister, jumper/resistor for the O2 sensor, and plug for the exhaust. George was very helpful. The only thing that confused me was he didn't take payment over the phone. I need to pay the UPS delivery person by personal check-- what's that called?? -- COD:D.

PALMER84ONE, largestache, and rajobigguy -- your endorsements sealed the deal for me. Not being louder than OEM at idle and part throttle is nice. Now, did any of you have to do anything with iBeat after the install. George was pretty adamant that the install shouldn't require an iBeat tweak, but that periodically iBeat is needed on these bikes to reset the TPS to zero as it get out of adjust with time and wear. Any comments?

Yes, it meets the SAE J350 spec for a DOT registered vehicle.

George does all my iBeat work. He did the first service and Power up on my TE450 and SM610, so if he said no, then you can bet it was no. And yes, Up-tite George is WAY old-school, I don't even think he has ever had a credit card machine let alone a credit card in his {wallet.< But that statement could be wrong.} :excuseme::lol:

I didn't do anything with the I-beat at first. It ran fine. I didn't notice anything weird about how it worked after installing the "power up goodies". George did set the TPS for me while he was in Colorado on vacation. ( If that isn't the best customer service ever, I don't know what is). The TPS was off from the factory, the idle was set too high.

Bought the 610 Power Up kit from George. Installed the slip-on only and took it out for a ride. Several impressions. First, although the canister is a straight-shot through, it really isn't louder than the stock at idle and even WOT, in my opinion. That's good. Second, the bike is quite a bit more peppy. This is more like what I was expecting the bike to be when I first bought it. It's impressive. First and second gear no longer feel like the timing is retarded. Mind you, I haven't removed the O2 sensor and installed the resistor yet (still stock map). I wondering (hoping) if there will be another significant gain in power when I do that.

I'm impressed to say the least. With most street bikes a canister change only makes the bike louder without any significant power gain. With the 610 it's the reciprocal. Sweet.

George set my bike on delivery and at 600 mi (where we did the power-up). Very little adjustment at 600 despite power-up. Slow break-in IMO contributes to a less heat sensitive bike and a more stable tune. I'm fortunate in that I can stop by after a 7 mi ride down the street and although I don't ask he looks the bike over and notes any issues that he sees.
